Voices (Continued from page 4) Since my last letter to Cycle News the waiting list for the fall semester has jumped from 10 to 24 students requesting MOLOrcycle Repair when the fall semester begin on September . There is a growing con ern LO save this program. Atthe Master Advisory Breakfast. held at Trade-Tech on May I, a coalition onsisting of Dave Arnold of American Honda, David W.oman of Yoshimura R&D, Paul Flander of Flander & Company, Jim Pearson of .S. uzuki, and Dave Friesen of United Way spoke to Lo Angeles Community College Chancellor Leslie Koltai, to ViceChancellor Kenneth Washington, and to Trustees Wallace Albenson, Marquerite Hudson, and Harold Garvin about retaining the mOLOrcycle curriculum. They were told that a final decision had not been made. After six days of hearings that took place on April 21 through April 28, impanial administrative law judge Milford A. Maron recommended on April 30 that the Motorcycle Repair program be retained. As of May 15 no positive action has been taken by the Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees. I know that it is not easy for mOLOrcyclists LO write letter, but it seems vitally necessary in this industry just LO keep what we have. Just a note with eight copies addressed LO Tru tees Arthur Bronson, Lindsay Conner, Wallace Albert on, Marguerite Hudson, Monroe Richman, Leticia Quezada, Harold Garvin, and Susanne pillane will make a difference. Send your envelope to 617 West 7th Street, Los Angele , CA 90017. If you have ever doubted my per onal commitmem to this industry and the program at Los Angeles Trade-Tech, see the ad for the faJ I semester, de igned and paid for by yours truly, in Cycle News. I am sure the Trustee would view Lhis ad as premature. but I see it as an investment which best justifies the program, the success of its graduates. . PAT OWENS Instructor MOLOrcycle Repair Los Angeles Trade-Technical College . Los Angeles, California Restroom lines I recently attended a road race at Willow Springs Raceway and enjoyed myself very much. However, I do have one critici m, and that concerns the heavy alcohol consumption by the spectaLOrs. Becau e of the large beer company dollar that flow inLO racing, promoters and Lrack owners eem unwilling LO address this. TOW, don't get me wrong, I enjoy having a beer or two myself at home. lL's j US! that many so-called race fans seem LO enjoy gelling wasted more than they enjoy the racing. For motorcycle racing to flourish, we must make it appealing to a many types of people as possible. Many parents probably avoid bringing their children LO mOLOrspons events because of the pany atmosphere as ociated with racing. After all, cutting alcohol consumption would bring about one positive effea; shoner restroom lines! DAN BURNS Hemet, CA Published lette... do not nec....rily reflect the pOlition of Cycle New•• Inc.
