Jerry Koris topped the 500cc Amateur class for his first win in three years at the Virginia State Fairgrounds short track. rid fight among themseles and gave Rickman the room to pull away and win. In the main he wasn't as successful as Doug Elliott led from the line. On the fourth circuit Glenn Barr worked his way to the front and went on to win. Elliott rode a strong race to hold off Nuckols and Rickman for second. The 500cc Amateur class had a new winner in the heat and final. Jerry Koris, riding a Yamaha lhis season, has been one of the hardest luck riders in past seasons. He could lead any race, but almost always had his machinery come apart. Tonight Koris led every lap of his heat, despite the concerted efforts of Chris Rickman and Alfred Ledbetter. The main was nearly a repeat as only Rickman fell off the chase at four laps. Ledbetter rode the bridesmaid position for two laps until perennial favorite Glenn Baar muscled by. Baar gave it his all, but Koris was in front to stay, scoring his first victory in three seasons. Rusty Rogers had his problems in the 250cc ranks, but proved unbeatable in the 500cc Pro class. Rogers got out front and won his heat in front of Mark Hartley and Ray West. In the main, Rogers took up the lead again and built up a comfortable lead. About midway Hartley got a little running room in front of West and then set sail after Rogers, but ran out of laps. Rogers crossed the line doing a whee1ie for the crowd. u'EID Blrtr III- 'II It n ill II 1Ilt1lr""", 1 . .". . , • ....,,,, ' ..,,.,.. 1 .11. 7 . . 11I"."..11 """". ......... ..... ,..., A 2'Ii' is " ' n • .,$' lilt tII"CIII'r ..", ", .... ...
