Joines jams at Edwards MX By Glenn Worrall EDWARDS AFB, CA, MAY 4 Tim Joines continued his domination of the Over The Hill Gang Novice class, posting a 1-1 score for the overall win at a windy Edwards Air Force Base this weekend. Joines jammed out of the gate as mota one got underway, with Hondamounted Butch Smith breathing down his neck. The battle for the lead was so fierce that the rest of the pack was left behind; Ron Holman and Suzuki-mounted Dan La Mere were dicing it out for third. Joines held off the hard-charging Smith and flew past the checkers first. La Mere who had moved down from the Intermediate class after being consistently lapped by the water truck - bailed, allowing Holman to take third place. The second mota had Joines and Smith once again contesting the lead ahead of Holman, La Mere and Honda rider Pete Klassen. The two leaders stuck to each other like glue throughout the moto and as they roosted past the finish £lag, it was Joines by a few inches taking the win and overall victory. Jim O'Neal (O'Neal USA) took the Expert division win after first-moto winner Scott Freeman dumped his Honda in mota two. • Results EX: 1. Jim O'Neol (Honl; 2. Scott Freemon (Hon); 3. Jeff Bell (Vom). Houston tops Hideaway MX By Pete Keiser NEWBURG, PA, MAY 6 In the third race of the season at Hideaway Motocross, Greg Lykens almost pulled off an Open A victory, but Robert Huston squeaked by in the final 50 yards of track in the second maLO, to take the trophy. In the first mota Huston and Lykens ran 1-2 from the holeshot to the checkered flag. Lykens tried several times to put his MStar past the KTM of Huston, but Huston appeared to have an extra touch of power and kept him at bay. A 3-4 finish sealed third overall for Gary Strausser. Gregs' brother, Chris Lykens, also enjoyed a winning day. He overcame two falls and won the 125ccCclasson a Kawasaki. In the third lap of the first maLO he slid coming out of a turn, but got back up before anybody could get by. Nick Nudy scorched around the 2-3/8-mile track and moved (rom sixth to third. The second mota saw 15-year-old Pierson Reasner start just behind Lykens; Reasner was pressing when Lykens had his second fall of the day. Reasner got by and stayed in the lead for several laps. Lykens regained the lead by passing Reasner. Reasner eventually finished third in the second mota, whid1 combined with a ninth in the first moto LO earn him third overall, behind Lykens and N udy, (or a Kawasaki sweep.
