Motorcycle World with Larry Huffman ffi Barclay, Ramsay lead off AAMRR season opener . via satellite This guests are: ** DON & MARCIA VESCO ** By Leon Clark Bonneville WorId Motorcycle Speed Record Holders LOUDON, NH, MAY II TiI:9 Barclay scored double victories in Modified Production Two and Production One classesatAAMRR's first roadraceoC the 1986 season at New Hampshire's Bryar Motorsport Park. The AAMRR Production One (Open) and Two (750cc) classes were combined within the same race and were official rounds of the Suzuki GSXR National Championship Cup Series in the Northwest Rional. Riders with both Suzuki 'GSXR models had to choose between them, as Cup races were combined. The appearance of about 40 new. Suzuki GSXR750s and llOOs and the presence of U.S. Suzuki representatives Bob Star and Dave Tulis added to the pre-race excitement for the feature, with Larry HuHman also on hand with film crew on behalf of U.S. Suzuki. Everyone in the pits stood along the pit wall or atop the Bryar building as the Production One and Two feature was flagged underway. Eventual Production One winner Mark Mastrangelo wheelied his GSXR II 00 out front oH the start, but was passed entering turn two by Joey -Osowski, also GSXRI100 mounted. As Mastrangelo ran wide in turn two, .the GSXR 750 mounted trio of Mark Bougas, Dave Sadowski and Edgar Hinton contested second place. At the end of lap one, Jon Gray, Gregg Kopp and Tim Barclay had joined the battle for second spot. Hinton q uickl y wen t under Sadowski in turn 10, then Bougas in turn three, to take over first in Production Two behind Osowski's 1100. Sadowski squeezed by Bougas under braking in turn eight and set sail for Hinton. A lap later, the lead train of five riders Osowski, Hinton, Sadowski, Bougas, and Barclay, streamed past the start finish nose-to-tail. As the pack entered the fast, left hand turn three, Osowski, then Hinton went down violently, Hinton going into the pond some distance. In the ensuing scatter, at least five additional bikes went down in the oil left by Osowski's crash. The race was red-flagged, with a lengthy delay for track cleilnuP. Almost miraculousl y.for such a fast turn, only Hinton was seriously injured, with a reportedly broken upper left arm, possible broken nose, and chest bruises. The machinery didn''( fare so well however, and Dorman, Gray, Collazzo and others couldn't make the restart. The restart saw Mark Bougas quickly out front, but Tim Barclay late-hrakedhim going into turn four, and pulled out a three-bike lead. Dave Sadowski came from the sixth row and held a comfortable third, while Greg Kopp and Fred Renz trailed the leaders. The order remained unchanged but tentative !!lntil the white flag lap where Bougas put pressure on Barclay in turn two, running up alongside but unable to get by.. By turn six, Bougas was surprised by a deep braking charge by Sadowski, who got by and showed a wheel to Barclay. Barclay held on going into the final turn, where Sadowski tried a long, outside pass which put him into a big slide, but recovered to hold down second at the finish, followed by Bougas, Renz and Kopp. Mastrangelo took Production One honors, followed by Tim Ropes. Osowski broke shortly after the restart, but was Sunday~s special It comes to you live, every Sunday night from 10 to 11 p.m.' KOLA 99.9 FM KTIM 100.9 FM San Francisco/Oakland XTRA "Extra Gold" 690 AM KYLO 105.5 FM Los Angeles/Riverside Orange Co.lSan Bernardino Sacramento SLrongest AM Station in Western U.S. Call in and talk. with all the top personalities, and be pari o( motorcycle world. 1*1 Spon,""d by, 1-(800) 228-5249 or (714) 951-1962 SUZUKI Specializing in personalized service.
