Edge, Standeford axEugeneMX By Clay Light EDGE E, OR, MAY 10 Suzuki pilot Chad Egge stormed his way into the winner's circle during AMA District 28 motocross action at Emerald Racing Association (ERA) Raceway in Eugene, Oregon. Egge dominated two classes, winning the 2SOcc C and OpeD C events with 2-\ rides respectively in each class. Charlie Standeford smoked the Old Timers' Money motos wi th I-I rides for top cash payoff. Dan Mathis was the only other double winner, topping the 2S0cc Band 12Scc B classes with I-I finishes. Rain aLI week long caused panic in theeyes of the competition, due to the fact that the Eugene track is quite a mess when mother nature dumps heavy precipitation on the track. Those on hand found it to be remarkably dry and loamy and like the previous race here, got the last laugh. The first group of riders to test the turf was a combined Old Timers MoneylTrophy and 30-40 Trophy runoff. Standeford stormed his way to the head of the pack on the Heeter Enterprises Honda CR500 followed by fellow Money class competitor Charlie Harter (Maico) on the first lap of mota one. Following behind were Don Colt (ATK) and Husky rider Don Burkin, who thumped across the line behind the duo in the 3-4 spots for first and second in the Trophy class. Mota two again had Standeford smoke off the line to lead Harter and Burkin around the perfectly groomed, Roger Campbell-designed course. Chris Alberts (Honda) came up from Coos Bay to contest the 30-40 Trophy portion of the race and did a sensational job of holding off Salem's Rusty Garrison for a win in the first moto and did the same in the second round, following Standeford and Harter, who were first and second in the money portion, and Burkin, who did a number on Colt for top brass in the Old Timer Trophy event. Garrison went 2-2 for second and Doug Eckelman took a third with 3-3 rides in the 30-40 class behind the I-I of Alberts. Billy Dickerson ( ofa Bed Factory/ Honda) topped the first 250cc C moto over Egge and Honda-mounted Keith Peterson, but in the second contest it was Egge on the Dan's Equipment uzuki hooking up with the hole hot and nabbing the checkered flagat the completion of the race for a 2-1 win of the clas over the 1-3 tally of Dickerson and Peter on, who finished second to Egge in maLO two for a 3-2 third. The day's best race came in the form of two Open B/C and 250cc B matos, run in two waves. Rick Gunderson (Yamaha of Springfield) has been on a rampage in the class all season long and took top laurels in the class after holding off Tom Wood (Eastside Kawasaki), who was tops in the Open C portion. Second to Wood in the C division was Egge (Suzuki) followed by Dickerson (Honda), Garrison and Colt, who thumped to a fifth in th~ m9to.on hi.s 5Q()(;c J\TK
