Dunlop, Brian Doran and Boggia following Andrew~ through the first three laps. Be£ore the first lap had ended, Frankenberrv had taken fifth place away from Boyas as Robison, after a bad start, began to work his way through the pack from an llth place start. While Andrews pulled away, Robison began his climb to the front, passing two riders each lap along the way~ By the third lap, Boggia had moved past Doran and Dunlop into second place, Doran holding onto third with Robison challenging Dunlop for fourth. With one lap to go, Robison had disposed of Dunlop and Doran, setting his sights on Boggia. Robison, at a f()ur-second deficit was unable to catch Boggia. In the first 250cc B moto, Mike LaVan led the 23 riders through the first turn only having to relinquish his lead to Wayne Becker when a broken shift lever sent him to the pit area for a quick repair. Hondamounted jeH johnson took over the top spot, passing Randy Evens and Becker with Evens following johnson past Becker into second place. In the second moto, Terry Diliman grabbed the top spot and held on through the four-lap moato for the win. Evens and Dave Halden battled for second with Halden following . Diliman through the checkered flag. johnson worked his way through the group of riders to take third in front of Evens, johnson taking the overall win. The white flag saw Sipes trying to recover the front position, while Barr almost crashed as Sipes went by cutting the course, which cost Sipes the first position, giving Barr the motowin. Bleharfinished third, while Brown took fourth. Kevin Poole dominated moto one of the Open A and returned in moto two to lead until a broken throttle cable cost him the overall win, as Tony Whelan landed the overall with a 2-1 score_ Mark Cox dueled with Rodney Carrier for the overall in the 250cc B. Cox was the early leader in moto one, followed by Carrier. Carrier challenged Cox for the lead and grabbed it for the moto win. Carrier jumped to the from in moto two, as Todd Blehar. hounded. Sipes dipped his way to the lead in moto one with Barr closing in and taking the outside to pass. But Sipes gased it, triggering a crash for Barr. Sipes, then crashed, putting ne",:comer Craig Blehar into the lead. Slpe, overcame his crash, reclaimed the first spot with Blehar second. Barr, down to fourth. passed Brian Brown to move into third, as Sipes and BIehar contested each other for first. Blehar went down, as Barr moved into second. Barr shot to the inside to steal the lead from Sipes. Barr took the win as Sipes earned runner-up honors. Sipes, again. showed his skill at holeshots, by taking'the lead in mow two, only to be hassled by Barr, Blehar and Brown. Sipes had pulled out By Michael Harasmisz HUNT, NY, APR. 20 The season opening race at Hunt MX drew 330 riders to the natural terrain track. Conditions were excellent for the first round of motos but rain turned the racing into a mud fest during the second round. Kawasaki-mounted Brian Austin took the overall win in the 250cc Expert class with 2-3 moto finishes. In the first 250cc Expert moto, Dave Phillips pulled the holeshot with Austin and Troy Bradshaw following him closely. Phillips led for just one lap before Austin, Bradshaw and Canadian Mike Harden passed him. Austin led until lap six when Harden passed him and ,,:ent on to win with Austin finishing second and Bradshaw third. Conditions in the second mow were very muddy and taking the right lines was very important. Mike Robinson took the lead at the start with Pete Phillipsand Mike Harasmisz following. Robinson led every lap to take the win, but the battle for second was a three-man affair. Harasmisz Woolridge and Harden diced for the runner-up spot until Harden crashed out of the moto and Harasmisz dropped out of the top five.
