Slacey Cook (Han) was undaumed and won bOlh moLOS going away. An DeHoff (Yam) charged from lhe oUlside for the holeshol in mala one ahead of Dave Newell (Kaw), Tim Buchli (Yam) and Cook. The order held for one and a half laps, . . lhen Cook picked orr one posilion each lap for the nexllhree lO lake lhe lead. No more changes occured up from umillap six when Buchli passed. Newell for lhird. Cook strelched out a seven-second margi nat the checkers, with DeHolTcoming in second just ahead of- Buchli, who was gaining rapidly. DeHoff used the same lactics LO grab his second holesliol, bUl Cook, again, caughl and passed him on lap lhree. Cook pulled away toanolher seven-semnd lead, while Buchli was afler DeHoff. The lwosome weill handlebar-la-handlebar on the lasl lap, bUl DeHoff held on LO cam second overall. The Open Pros were here for lhe second showdown in their series, wilh Jim Milchell wkinghisslightlyancielll Suzuki RM465 lO victory. He gated lhird behind Scoll Kilgore (Kaw) and Derek Brown (Kaw) in round one, bUl Brown took over and led for lhe nexllhree laps.. Milchell and Kilgore bOlh pass'ed at this poim, and Milcht'll began pulling away and look lhe win. Brown faded al the end and finished far behind Kilgore. Brown came back LO lead round lWO from f1ag-to-f1ag, as Milchell spcm the molO calching up from a mid-pack start. Heevelllually reached second ahead of Kilgore, bUl never dosed Brown's big kad during lhe lasl four laps. Jeremy Middaugh (Kawasaki) was a surprise' winner in lilt' 80cc EXpt'l"l'S lhird poi illS race. Andy Alkins (Yamaha) dominaled 1ll0l0 one alwad of Robert Revoir (Kawasaki), Jared Ramsour(Kawasaki) and Middaugh. Alkins look the hokshol in molO lWO bUl bailed hiler and remounled allhe back of lll(' pack. Middaugh took over and held off Ramsour early Ix'fore pulling away allhe finish. His 4-1 lally oUldid Ramsour's 3-2 and Revoir's 2-3. ~ It used to take 2:20 to make one lap of the Laredo, Texas testtrack where the lastthree 24 Hour World Speed Records have been set. First, Cycle World broke the record with a 128.23 MPH effort in September, 1985. Then a Honda VFR 700F set If new record of 138.90 MPH on April 27, 1986. Later that day, a Honda VRF 750F set the current 24 Hour World Record with an average speed of 143.18 MPH. Some laps have been done in less than 1 :56. That is speeds of over 160 MPH.
