Swims' Suzuki exploded int o dozens of pieces on impa ct with th e wall. Harrison's Suzuki got airborne at 130 mph after hi tting Swims ' sea t. H arriso n held on to th e bike, which h it the wall wheels fir st , shearing both wheel s off the bik e. Harrison walked away from the crash ; Swims was taken to the hospital to be checked out but was released wit h no serious inj ur ies. At the restart Polen ran away a nd Ch ivington looked resigned to take second. Ch ivington later said he was just going to ride around because he wanted to be able to drive home after the weekend was over. Kurt Hall had won th e Honda Interceptor heat race convincingly over T ysor and Polen. But Polen had used th is lay-low policy before. Du ring the race Hall jumped to a big lead . Each lap Pol en would close the gap. At the halfway flags Polen drafted past H all for th e lead. Hall kept pace and even pa ssed once more but eventu ally dropped off of Pol en's pace. Polen had pulled off another of his patented come-from-behind win s. Pol en described the 1.5 mile course. " A da y here is like a da y at Six Flags.
