Paladino grabs Pro · win at Sand Hill By Lee Denlinger BR ENT WOOD, CA, AP R , 13 Kawasaki-mounted Dan ny Paladino (Contra Costa Kawasaki) again proved h is prowess on his 125cc green machine as he garnered to p h on ors in the mixed 125/ 250cc Pro class at Sand H ill today. The first moto was a runaway ride for Pal ad in o; the second, a hardfought victory, Wh ile Paladin o was, cutting his own line to the checkers in the first moto, a different kind of race developed behind h im , George H op per , in his first ride since h is wrist inju ry last year , held on to a strong second place position for two laps unti l h is wrist gav e out and he conceded the slo t to fellow Honda rider Jack Azevedo, Azevedo maintained h is edge for two laps, giv ing way to Jon King (Malcol m Smith /Wal nut Cree k Honda/Circle In dustries /Maxima Ra ci n g Lu bricants ) a t the white flag, It: was a Paladino, King, Azevedo finish at the checkers. Russ Sco tt (Suzuki) grabbed the holesho t in the seco nd moto and immediately opened up a 10 bikelength lead. Beh ind hi m, Azevedo , Hopper, Kin g , and Pa ladino kicked up the dust as the pack bit each other's fenders for second pl ace, H opper made his move on Azevedo on the second lap by taking an o utside track and th en on th e next turn, cutting to the inside to make h is pass , Hopper then closed in on Scott, who was sh owing signs of tiring, As th ey came off th e top, Hopper powered past Scott. In the meantime, Paladino was waging his own battle with Kin g and Azevedo, nipping a t their pipes before successfully making th e passes in the fourt h lap. By th is tim e , H opper 's wrist co u ldn' t hold on and h e dropped ou t o f th e running, letting Scott tak e the lead with Pal adino breathing his ex ha ust. Pal adino waited for Scott to tu rn wid e, a nd whe n he did, Pal adino cu t to th e inside, m ad e the pass a nd to ok th e checkers o n th e next lap.
