Radical environmentalists have banded together to attempt to block a proposed 75-mile ORV trail in southern California's San Bernardino National Forest, The group, which calls itself The San Bernardino National Forest Coalition, has alreedy started a localmedia publicity campaign to oppose the trail. which is part of the U.S. Forest Service's forest management plan and which would start at Baldy Mesa. northeast of Wrightwood. The Forest Service • will hold a plan workshop at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga. Team Hammer's Do ug Toland crashed whi le lead ing Ch ivington in the first hour, and Hammer's Pat Hernon crashed in th e second hour; Hammer eventually fin ished 26th after extensive repairs. Texan Doug Polen dominated WERA National Sprint action at Rockingham, North Carolina on April 27•winning the Suzuki GSXR National Cup Series A Production and B Production events and a GSXR11 00 and GSXR750 respec tively and also topping the Honda Interceptor 500 race . Dan Chivington finished second on Suzukis in A Production and B Production. and Doug Chancey third in A Pro duction on a Suzuki and Thomas Stevens third in B Production on a Suzuki. Kurt Hall was second in the Honda Interceptor race, ahead of Greg Tysor: Nursing an injured shoulderfrom an endurance-race crash in North Carolina on Apri l 26, Doug Toland j umped on an overnight flight to an April 27 AFM race held at Willow Springs Int ern a tio na l'Raceway in Rosamond , California. Toland won the Open Stock Prod uctio n and 750cc Stock Prod uctio n events, part of the Suzuki GSX R National Series, but was then docked one lap for passing Malcolm Hill in the 750cc class while a standing yellow flag was displayed; the penalty made Toland 26th. Hill was credited with the 750cc victory, ahead of Earl Ro lo ff and David Langford, Rol o ff on a Yamaha and Langford on a Suzuki. Scott Gray finished seco nd to Toland in Open Prod uctio n wi th Robert Reinen third, a ll on GSXR I IOOs; Gray led bu t crashed out of the 750cc race . Billy DeBere co ntin ued to dominate the Honda Intercep to r 500 Ser ies at Willow, beating Steve Reyn osa a nd Richard Moore.
