Olson tops OT MX at Perris By Bob Alloy PERRIS, CA, MAR. 29 On wha t couldri've been a nicer . day at Perr is Raceway, over 40 Old T imers MXers invaded the plush Perris track to do battle o nce ·aga in. Starring today's event was Master " Movin' Marv " Ol son on his YZ Yamaha. However, Olson 's win wasn't a cake walk - he worked every lap of the way for his victory, while another Yamaha rider, Jim Belt n ick , fin i sh ed a respectab le second. In both long mo tos, Ol son co ul d do no better th an back-of-th e-p ack starts, whi le Bel tn ick stole the holesho t each time o ut. As the race progressed, Ol son opened up the throttle a n d beg an wea vi n g his way up through traffic until running o ut of riders to pass. His fina l victim was Beltnick , who eventually fin ished th ird pl ace. Finish ing in between Ol son an d Beltn ick was the fast Bo b Dahlgren . The secon d-mote ho leshot, o nce agai n, belo nged to Belmick, while O lson was back in the pack. This time, howe ver, Beltn ick was no slouch and never relinquished his lead. O lson might've lost the ba ttl e to Belt n ick in th e second moto, finishing second, but O lso n wo n the war with a 1-2 score, toppin g Beltn ick 's 3-1 tall y. Dahlgren finis hed third. The two Experts remai ned tied from the second loo p through th e fourth loop and fin ished wi th identical scores of 14 marks. Yo ung's 28 cleans ga ve hi m the tie-breaker over Fish's 25 cleans. Florida cha m pi o n Brock Sa ttelmeier was tied for firs t af ter the first loop, but slipped to th ird unde intense pressure from Yo ung and Fish . Tony DeJulii s, on h is Trials Cen tre Beta, domi nated the Intermediate class, lead in g from start to fin ish . Bunky Miller 's consis te n t scores brought him o ut on top of a close th ree-way contest for second p lace.
