Story begins on page B. photo by Mark Kariya . 4 We just read yo u r cove rage o f th e Great Mojave 250 in the April 16 edition. To say we were di sappointed in th e accuracy of the report ing would be an understatement. Dale Brown has always done a fine job of repo rt ing in the past but th is tim e he has done a great in jus tice to th e 250cc team of Scott Morris and Daryl Folks. The Official SCORE International results have the Morris/Folks team in first place which the y justly deserve. At the finish line, hundreds of people observed the Morris/Folks bike cross the fin ish line just seconds behind the LanelTucker bike. Because Lane/ Tucker had started one minute before , the Morris/Folks team won on elapsed time. A far cry from the six minutes reported in your article. As reported in the story. the Morris/ Folks bike did suffer a broken pipe, fiat rear tire , and lost axle nut on the second loop. But not mentioned were the eig h t and one-h alf minutes of down time for repairs , time that was made up from Bessem er Min e to th e finish line. Scott Morris and Daryl Folks are an up-and-coming team in the 250cc class and need all the recognition th ey earned and deserve. They rode their hearts out at Lucerne to come from behind and win. I'm sure you are aware of the tremendous amount of time, money and effort that is put into the preparation, pre-running and participation in th is series of rac es. It is certainly not fair to them or their sponsors to be reported second in a race of national stature such as thi s when in fact th ey were first. CASEY FOLKS MIKE MORRIS Las Vegas. Not a brat This letter is in response to the letter entitled " Spo iled Brats" in Cycle News, April 16. I also went to Barona Oaks near San Diego, California on ' Sunday, March 30 to watch good racing and that's exactly what I saw. I felt that Rick johnson co nducted himself in a very sportsman- like way, with the exception of riding in th e p its. In regards to hi s character. he was very polite and very much a gentlem an whe n m y fam ily a nd I talked to h im . I d idn 't a t all feel that he was a spoi led brat. He ha d some bad luck in bo th o f his rnotos, and if you ha d been there. you would have noticed tha t th e both times he left the tra ck so di d the We are a group o f approxi mately 10 riders from Ontar io, Ca nada, who are p lannin g a trip to Massachusetts to ride some of the 1973 ISDT trails. We a re pl anning to ride for two full da ys o n May 17-18 1986. Our p roblem is no t kn ow in g where th e tra il s are, a nd wha t loops a nd a reas to use for gas sto ps. Rather than trying to follow maps, we'Id lik e to know if an yone in th e area (pitt field) would voluntarily be our guide for a few da ys. It would certainly make our trip more enj oya ble if we could meet some keen people with our interests. If anyone or any club is interested in helping us out, please write to me as soon as possible, so we can reserve accommodations in the right area before we leave. FRANKSUrrON 631 Oakridge Dr. London, Ontario N6H-3G3 519/471-0647 Lion Co untry update It's sad to imform the off-road motocross public that the Lion Country MX project will not be built. The M.C.M.S. Corp. has elected to pull out of the project. The motocross track plans came a long ways in two years of its planning stages. Through lots of hard work. time and expense, the M.C.M.S. Corp. located a lease site ; overcame the Fish and Game Department's primary blocks; had the Environmental Impact Studies removed through petition work, and gained the City Council's approval. Unfortunately, we had to pull out because of insurance problems we couldn't overcome, The mandatory $25 mill ion insurance liability set by the Irvine Company was impossible to purchase. I have to commend the efforts of M.C.M.S. for trying to put together what could have been the nicest centrally located motocross park in southern California. ROB RUSTAN Midwa y City .
