"I th ou gh t it was very interesting, and I rea lly enjoyed the course," said Walker. " T h e o n ly thing I didn 't like were a ll th e 90 0 turns . They mak e it tough to sta y on th e co urse." Moen , who wa s racing o n hi s home ground, said th e course was not well m arked for th e faster riders . " It wasn't m arked for fast ," he said. " I! wa s marked for p eople that wer en 't go in g anywhere near th e speed we were , and th e way they had it , when you overshot th e course there were always big piles of rocks or something there. The first Ama teur rider to take the -, checkered flag was Distr ict-38's Tim Fun , who came in 13th overa ll on his Honda and described the co urse as "proba bl y th e best th ey've had out h ere so far." Racin g in the 125cc class p ro vided some surprises. with the " Kin g ofthe C class " Du an e Su m mers missi ng o u t in h is bid to make it four-in -a-ro w in the Nat iona l Ha re a nd H ound Series. Bu t w hen th e rid ers h it th e p its a t th e end of th e seco nd loop , th e lea d was in th e ha nd s o f Sa n Diego 's Tay lor in 16th overa ll, wi th Sum mers trail in g by three m in u tes, back in 28th overall. Tay lor h eld onto th e lead in loo p three an d too k the win in th e C class in 15th overall. " I though t it was grea t," he said. ''I' m h ap p y to beat Du ane. T hat guy is rea lly good - I cha sed h im for mi les! I got past h im in a rough sectio n." Tay lor, wh o sa id he thought the co urse was great , descri bed himself a s new in town . " I on ly just started racing down h ere," h e said. "So far it's goi ng gr eat. Summers, wh o finished 23rd overa ll to take second in th e C class, said he had lost th e lead because of a fla t tir e. " I was just cruisi ng ." said Summers. " I was following h im (Taylor) to see how fast I had to rid e. In a ll that dust I didn ' t want to race too fast beca use I was tired from racing yesterda y (in th e SC O RE Great Mojave 250) wi th a ll th e dust from the cars. T he n I got a fla t j us t a fter th e p its at th e end of the first loop a nd tha t was it. I guess I shou ld've raced a ll th e wa y." Su m me rs, who is sti ll wa y o ut in front in the Nationa l Hare and Hound Series C class points wit h three firs ts a nd a seco nd, was tea med with Brian Fo lks in th e SCO RE race a t Lucerne . " We ran ou t of gas wi th a n eigh tminute lead th ere ," h esaid. "I've h ad a rotten weekend - I'm go ing home! " Third in th e 125cc class went to Kevin Case, who took th e class hon ors in th e Great Mojave 250. " T h is is the same bike I won on vesterdav. ' h e said. " I cleaned th e a ir' filter and that was it. This was like a d us ty road race - rea l fast. It co u ld' ve been a bit rougher for me."
