Zahrf takes CRC Pros By Te rry Rezek PALMDALE, CA , MAR. 30 Ken Zahrt abandoned the 80cc he rode at last week's Californ ia R acin g Club (C R C) Grand Prix in favor of a 250cc H o n da , but still dominated the Vet and Pro classes at C RC's MX at Los Angeles County Raceway o utside of Palmdale. Open Pro Mark Nation bea t Zahrt out o f the gate in moto one of the combined Pro race; th en Zahrt bea t Nation through the first turn . Zahrt (KZ Suspension l AXO/FMF Honda ) motored o n for a n easy win. Nation h eld the Open- class lead for several more laps unti l T im Hanna (Shoei/FM f I H T Raci ng Kawasaki) recovered from a mediocre start and blasted past. Although Han na h ad the O pen class bagged, h e got into a major battle with J o n Ortner, who was running second overall. Hanna fin a ll y got past in the last lap for second overa ll but Ortner remained second 250cc P ro. When the gate fell for m o to two, Zahrt was not on the line. Natio n a nd Hanna were side-by-side and 10 seconds down the track by the time Zahrt showed up o n the line and started after them. By the end o~lap four , Zahrt was in second, about 10 seco nds back. At first, h e seemed content to sta y there; Hanna was in a different class. In the last la p-a nd-a-h alf, Zah rt started to move and nearly ca ught Hanna right at th e checkered, finishing only inches beh ind. It didn 't mat·ter . They both took first in class for th e mo to and overall. Zahrt was back in the Vet race but it was no contest as he easily wo n both m o tos. Kenny's wife, T ina , was o n the track at the same time in the Women's class and Kenny even had time to ride besid e her for a while and still go on to win for fami ly racing a t its best. Vet Expert Ken McAlister ran well o u t in fro nt of a ll o the r Vets in both m otos to get second overa ll.
