Lane and Tucker were eight m inutes ba ck . While th e two leaders had their second-lap pace drop by about six mph in th e traffic, Lane and Tucker managed to stay with in o ne mph of th eir first loop an d th ey passed th e other two , a nd even tua lly finished six m in ut es ahead. " We thought we had a good ride going and Phil Gorgone - he's m y buddy - h ad a litt le trouble in this last secti on on the ro ck downhill. Depending o n th e time, we ma y have won it. I don't know . I sur e need it ; it 'd be th e fir st time in six years of SCORE racing. ' 'I'd like to comment on th e ca rs. I went down three times because of th e ca rs. Some drivers ar e excellent, a nd some don 't give a bleep. Overall, I'm j ust happy that I made it h ere." Eckardt a n d Gorgone were lat er penalized II minutes for not stopping at a road crossing, and were bumped back to si xth . We were playing ca tch -u p a ll da y; from 30 m inutes back we a lmost got 'em ," A too-cl ose en co u nter wi th car traffic caused J ackson to crash: " In a lap race lik e this yo u ca tch th e turkeys. It is dangerous. They don 't move o ver, th ey don't understand. th ey don 't use th eir mirrors. They shouldn't be o u t th ere. For th eir own safet y."
