Tyler top Salem Arenacross ~e", By Clay Light SALEM , O R, MA R. 29 Seattle's Scott Tyler made the long , 225-mile trip down 1-5 to Salem pay off by winning both high ly competitive 250cc Pro m otos a t th e seco nd n ight o f a rena cross racin g a t th e Oregon State Fairgrounds. H onda -mounted Mik e Bell used co ns istency (2-2) to bag th e 125cc P ro class. Local rid er Dann y U lven (Ka w) pulled o ff th e sur p rise o f th e even in g a t the dr op o f the sta rt in g gate in moto one and did a spectac u la r job of hold ing o ff Paul Winn (Ya m) , wh o recent ly returned home after a successful California race series . Winn tried in vain to nab leader Ulven in th e ea rly stages, but got past o n the final circu it of the gnarly whoop-de-doo-I ined track to win by a wheel. Winn wa s th e lone A rider so with a seco nd place fini sh U lven still nabbed the top 80cc B laurels over Dusty Brown (Ka w) and Honda pilot J ason Pearson. Mot o two had Winn leading start-to-finish while putting a good half lap on the competition with Ulven aga in taking second, good for a I-I in hi s cla ss ahead o f Pearson (3-2) and Brown (2-4). Dan Gregory had yet a nothe r successfu l night of racing and for th e third tim e in th e six-m o nt h a renacross series won two classes. In th e 125cc C ,class, Gregory pushed his Honda to th e front o f th e pack with heat winner Scott Garrison and Suzuki rider Brian Burnside in tow. Garrison / was seekin g a win in th e cla ss a fter a di sappointing bail off while leading last night'S race , but would get no further tha n second as Gregory wa s untouchable. Third fell Burnside's way over Mark Bassett, co nso lation winner Brod y Anderson and sixthplace finisher Ben Par ker. Chad Egge (Suz) grabbed the lead in th e 250cc C m ain event a nd led from the drop of th e gate unti l th e final turn when he bailed off in th e gnarly whoop-de-does and handed Gregory the lead on the , Detroit Marina Yam aha. Delane J ordan (Hon) took seco nd over Ro n Stevenson (Hon ). H onda rid er's Darren Rogers a nd Dana And erson led th e first 125cc B contest a nd went on to put o n a sen sational show for th e good-si zed galley o f spe ctators on th e Bob Lea ch -designed tra ck. Anderson na bbed Rogers for fir st wi th Ro ger s. Denn is McConnell (Kaw), series poi nts lead er Tony Graves (H on) an d Duane Redding (Kaw) in close pursuit. In th e seco nd ro u nd, Redd in g took th e lead on ly to have h is share o f tro u bles a nd wa tch from a di stance as Rogers an d Anderson too k o ff wh ere th ey left o ff in moto o ne by bangin g ba rs. Rogers took the flag wh en it co unted for a 2-1 overa ll win with Anderson nabbing second with a 1-2score and McConnell a third with 3-3 rid es. G raves had a much eas ier time in th e 250cc B clas s, dominating both motos for a I-I blitz on his Honda ahead o f Mik e Nott and Dave Fox (Ka w), Tyler (Yama ha -sup p ort/ H i-Point ) stormed into th e lead at the drop o f the gate in th e first 250cc Pro outing and h eld o n to the lead from start to finish . Canadian Larry Visco (Ka w) drove seven hours to Salem and wasn't about to let second out of his grasp.
