Bu t wh en it come s to the Interna tion al Six- Days Enduro (ISDE) and Nationa l ISD E qualifi ers. the l25cc class is as competitive as an y other; th ere are o n ly a few production 125cc enduro bikes to chose from - a ll Europea n -bred . Seeing five ISD E qua lifi ers schedu led o n th is year's ca lenda r, we decid ed to bu ild a Japa'nes e 125cc ISDE bik e ca p a ble of co m peting in th e 200cc class in local end u ros as well. A good ISD E bike must perform well at speed ; have enough low-end for tight sectio n s; and be lig h tweigh t, relia ble and easy to ma intain . That's whvwe chose rhe 1986 H onda CR I25R as project bi ke. sinc e it a lrea dy : h as most o f th ese q ua lifica tio ns. The m odi ficat ions made to the H o nda wer e intended to mak e it ISD E legal and en d u ro ready. At most qua lifiers where th e rider a ttempts 10 q ualify for the ISD E, th e bi ke m us t pass certain requirements , su ch as h avin g a worki ng headlight and tai llight , a spa rk a rres ter /silencer th a t doesn 't exceed 98 d bA at 20 in ches from th e ex haust pipe, a rear fender that ex tends downward fo ur inc he s at th e tip , an eco logy rear tir e. a side stand. a h orn a nd a rea r view mirror. T he rider who isn 't a ttempting to qualify only needs to pass th e so un d test. Th e rea r fender had to be trimmed to fit, while the fro nt fender o n lv needed holes d rilled for moun ting ' bolts. Si nce the Acer bi s front fender is a lillie o n the narrow side. we added Acer bis fen der extensions.
