Bone By Jeff Jacobsen MACON, GA, MAR. 9 CALHOUN, GA, MAR. 23 Keith Turpin, fresh from a 125cc Pro-Am win in Daytona, took three of four motos in the 125 and 250cc Pro classes at the So many 125cc Novice riders turned up at today's Calhoun Motocross that qualifying heats had to be run before David 34 Murray could claim the final victory. Lewis Thompson won the first qualifying heat. Kevin Hale fought his way to second place after going down in an S-curve. In the second heat, Hale took the holeshot and maintained his lead all the way to the checkered flag. In the first heat of the second qualifying group Kevin Thompson took the holeshot, but the win went to David Murray. In the second heat, Murray led until the fourth lap, when Steve Johnson zoomed by for the win. In the final death heat, Murray held the lead all the way to thp. finish. Johnson followed in second, Hale took third, and Kevin Thompson finished fourth. The regular 125cc race was fast and exciting with Danny Christy winning both motos. The £ight for second spot was between Scott McDonald and Gene Ridings with each rider finishing second once. McDonald took the second heat, so he grabbed second overall. Mark Burrows took the holeshot in the first 250cc moto, but gave his spot away to Kenny Hall, who had Ricky Wright on his tail. Wright took the Echeconnee MX, held near Macon. In the first 125cc Pro moto, Mark Crozier and Turpin put up a fierce battle for the number one spot. Crozier led from wire-to-wire, with Turpin hot on his back fender thewhole way. Turpin tried every trick in the book to get around, but Crozier used some tricks of his own to keep Turpin at bay. In the second moto, Crozier went down early, handing Turpin an easy Win. Rick Lindell and Tommy Martin put on a fantastic show in the Open Pro class. Lindell, with two good start, nabbed the lead early in both motos, while Martin got bad starts in both races and had to work his way through traffic to get Lindell in sight. In moto one, Martin turned on the gas to pass Lindell for the win on the white flag lap. Moto two action provided Lindell with another great start, while Martin played catchup again by charging through the pack. Martin inherited first place when Lindell went down in the whoops. Lindell remounted in time to salvage second place. The 125cc B motos were packed with top riders. In first moto action, Sean Dukes took the lead followed by Troy Harris and Ja\>bn A'mid. Ort'th~', third lap, Dukes crashed, and Harris took the lead, followed closely by Assad.
