Produced By Kessler soars at Philly Arenacross TalentBy Interviews By By James Derek ColorBy PHILADELPHIA, PA, MAR. 15 Mickey Kessler guided his Kawasaki to a pair of wins in from of afternoon anQ evening crowds totalling 38,000 spectators at the World Sporls/NHRA Arenacross championships in the Philadelphia Spectrum. The ew Jersey veteran overcame a tremendous crash during the midday qualifiers and the constant challenge of Dickie Bellora, Davey Coombs and Mike Bias to score the wins in the afternoon 250cc final and the 125cc evening final. Bias, tabbed the pre-race favorite after his sweep of the New York City Arenacross three weeks ago, could only manage a win in the evening 500cc program and a third in the afternoon final. He blamed his mediocre performance on a hippointer and several bruised ribs incurred at the Daytona Supercross. "The Daytona crash should have kept me out, but after hearing what Mickey had to say about my 'hazardous' riding style, I had to prove that my triple at the Madison Square Gardens was no fl uke." Bias was fast nonetheless, but he was no match for Kessler at the Spectrum. Kessler started his day with a showstoppi ng crash on the start of the first 125cc qualifier. He tangled with another rider over the first double and was pushed into the wall, cau ing man and machine to cartwheel the length of the arena.
