Bartlett, in his first season on a 250, didn't allempt to retain his 500cc title. This year's honors went to rookie Jeff Caudill on the Diamond State Racing/Mark Miller/ND Kawasaki. Caudill also finished second in the I25/200cc class. In the Diamond Motor Sports Invitational Series, Georgie Price captured the 125/200cc class on his Campus Kawasaki, as well as finishing fifth in the 250ccdass and second in the 500cc class, making him the only rider that received awards for all th ree classes in one year. Defending 250cc champion Miller retained his title, as well as capturing his third straight track championship aboard his Diamond Motor Spans/Milford Liquors/Skip Pikus/ ND/Jimmy Oliver-sponsored, Jimmy Reedy-tuned Honda, which LOok bim to nine feature wins in tbe I8-race series. Bartlett took top honors in tbe 500cc class on his Honda in the Invitational Series and fourth in the 250cc class. Jimmy Reedy was named Tuner of the Year for his work on Miller's bikes, and Keith Keily was crowned Rookie of the Year, which he earned by finishing sixth in the 250cc class aboard his Head Start/Scott Salvage/Les Scotten-backed Honda. McGinnis' sweeps Canyonlands MX By Dale Bohm and Dan Carn MOAB, UT, FER 22 Terry McGinnis dominated round two of the Plaza Cycle/ Yamaha Tri-State Series held at beautiful Canyonlands MX Park. McGinnis rode flawlessly to capture both 250cc and Open Pro· classes, while Brad Frampton and Andy Atkins dominated the 125cc Pro and 80cc Pro classes, respectively. In the Open Pro action, McGinni$ (Plaza Cycle/Yamaha) took the holeshot, followed by Kevin Fisher (Han), Steve Luczak (Kaw), Scott Nielson (Honda of Sah Lake), and Terry Kyle (Hus). After two laps, Neilson moved into second, pushing hard to catch McGinnis, while Kyle moved past Luczak to claim fourth. Shortly after tile second lap, disaster struck Nielson as he u'ied to clear a section of five jumps in a single leap. Kyle moved into second followed by Fisher, Luczak and Troy Brown. Meanwhile, at the front of the pack, McGinnis was looking like the champion he is, pulling away with a 15 second lead. Fisher was riding well and was pressuring Kyle, ~hile Nielson was moving up from his crash and was up to sixth place after five laps. Action remained the same, with rhe exception of Nielson. Picking off riders one-by-one, he moved into second at the checkered flag. Moto two was another McGinnis holeshot with NieJ'son second, Fisher third, Kyle fourth and Luczak fifth. Positions remained the same throu.~h out the maLO wilh the exceplion of Kyle and Troy Brown, who moved into third and fourth, respectively. McGinnis easily won the mota with overall finishing positions showing a McGinnis, Nielson and Kyle sweep. In 250cc Pro action, 17 riders lined up at the gate with Shane Neugebauer grabbing the holeshot, followed by Brad Frampton, McGinnis and Ricky Bleggi. After several laps, Frampton moved into first, followed by McGinnis and Neugebauer. A dogfight erupted between McGinnis and Frampton, and the two Golden State Series riders showed the crowd just what fast is! Meanwhile, Nielson was moving up fast and was up to eighth by lap four, pressuring Dale Bohm and Corky Maughan. After some dicing, Nielson moved into fifth and was looking good. Nielson got on thegas, passing his way up to third with first maLO positions reading McGinnis, Framp- _ ton, Nielson, Neugebauerand Bleggi. The second mota started with a Mike Thomas holeshot, followed by McGinnis, Nielson and Bleggi. Positions remained the same throughout the mota with I'rampton dicing his way to founh. Overall finishes were McGinnis, Nielson and Frampton. Brad FrampLOn (Western Honda) grabbed the 125cc holeshot, followed by Jimmy Brown (Western Honda), Steve Liedberg (Tooele Suzuki), and Wade Park. After several laps, Frampton was in control followed by Brown, Liedberg and Maughan. Positions remained the same until the seventh lap, when Brent McCoy moved past Liedberg for third, with Maughan dropping back to 12th. At the flag in order it was Frampton, Brown, McCoy, Liedberg and Robert Rose. MaLO two started with a Brown hoIeshot followed by Frampton, Liedberg and McCoy. The front runners battled for several laps with Frampton emerging the victor, followed by Brown and Lietlberg. Results 60 NOV: 1. Chance Maughan; 2. Russell Anderson; 3. Corry Rochford.
