STAGGARD DUAL MUFFLERS
Slackburnslnokes
Ocala MX
By Gwen Millan
REDDICK, FL, FEB. 23
Kawasaki-mounted Lonnie
Blackburn won the largest
class of the day with a 2-1 tally
in the l25cc Ama teur class in
molOcross action at Ocala. Mike
Horsley was Blackburn's closest competition as he handily won the first
mota, but finished third in malO two
for second overall.·
Kawasaki rider Joe Pearle from
New Port Richey, Florida, led the
first lap of the malO one, but had his
hands full with Horsley (Han), Steve
Vickors (Suz) and Blackburn right on
his heels. Pearle quickly dropped
back to fourth and the lap three
moved up a notch. [n fifth place,
Chuck Tanner pressured Pearle, and
those two moved up in positions as
Vickers dropped back (rom second
place lO fifth. At the checkers it was
Horsley first, followed by Blackburn,
Pearl, Tanner and Vickors.
The second 125cc malO saw Blackburn as the new leader, with Tanner
close behind. Cl,!ude McQuaig (Han)
followed in third, Pearle fourth, and
in fifth, William Brown. The second
lap, Horsley made a quick move from
sixth to third, and by the next lap was
closing on Tanner. The three diced
for the lead, but at the checkers it was
Blackburn first for the overall win,
followed by Horsley earning second
overall and Tanner third for third
overall.
Honda-mounted Don Horsley led
out the 250cc Amateurs and never
relinquished that lead for the win in
mota one. Larry Schultz and Eric
Osbourne, both on Hondas, came in
second and third, and Jon Allen
(Kaw) and Karl Kriser (Yam) rounded out the top five.
Mota lWO of the 250cc Amateurs
saw Horsley ag-ain going wire-lOwire in the lead for the overall win.
Lorenzo Williams took second this
malO, with Osborne third, Kriser
fourth and Schultz fifth,.
Canadians Mario Pacquelle and
Richard Sirois had a good ballie
going in the 250cc Expert division.
Sirois had the lead of[ the line, but by
the second lap, Pacquelle had taken
over. Sirois pressured Pacquelle the
entire malO, but at the checkers the
order was the same, with Greg Nelson (Suz) from Mississippi, Robert
Maitos (S-uz) from Minnesota and
Pennsylvania's Troy Coons rounding out the lOp five.
Sirois again had the holeshot in
moto two followed by Maitos, Pacquelle, Nelson, and the only Yamaha
rider in the class, David Nelson. After
the first lap, Nelson was out of the
picture. It took half the malO, but
Pacquelle's constant pressure paid
off as he maneuvered his way around
Maitos and set out after Sirois. Time
ran out for Pacquelle, and Sirois took
the malO for the overall viClOry over
Pa quelle, who went 1-2 for second
overall.
