Except for arrowing problem s en co untered by the ea rly rows, SERA's Barr y Bell and Gary Johnson did a n exce llent job in laying o ut a co u rse for a ll riders. The co urse had a 20m ph section and two 24-mph sections that took points from most riders. Each section had a reset long enough to p u t the C riders back on time and made the event like a Sunday ride bu t still tested the AA riders. In taking the overall wi n. Randy Haw kins dropped eigh t regula r poi nts and two early points. More than one rider complained to Bell about having two timed checks within three miles of eac h ot he r, but he quick ly pointed out that the check befo re his had white fla gs an d was not a timed ch eck. Hawki ns was two and a ha lf minutes early when h e saw the check and slo wed down. Hawkins managed to slow-ride one and a half mi nu tes off h is time, bu t sti ll was docked two points for bein g 30 seco nds early. With over 250 entries, the n ight'S acti vit ies ra n smooth ly o n th e dirt track th a t was co nverted by Dave Murrell and Co. fro m the p revio us n igh t'S speedway to a cha lle nging supercross-styl e MX. Everyone got into a q ual ifyin g heat and semi with gradua tion to th e mains the tough part. Cory Cantaloupi got th e holeshot in the first main event for 125cc P ro s on th e KR Yamaha, bu t Rod Smi th took a borrowed KX a nd ra n off wit h the win a s h e had don e la st year.
