In th e thi rd h eat ra ce, Chris Fit zh ugh got th e ho lesho t ahea d of Duan e G errard, Mike Budsh at , J o hn C layIOn a nd Don Wilson . Wi lson passed C layto n a nd th en Budscha t. Ge rrard slid u n der Fi tzh ugh but co u ldn 't ge t by. A lap lat er Fi tzhugh went too wide, wh ich let G errard ins ide. The two ran side -by-side un til G erra rd fina lly pulled ahead. In th e nex t co rn er Fi tzhugh slid ri gh t under G er rard, but G errard n ever gave a n in ch , barel y holding back th e hard- charging Fitzh ugh . At th e finish it was .C er rard, Fitzhugh, Wilson , Bud schat and C la yto n . In th e A main Fitzhugh a nd G errard crashed hard, but slowly both were a ble to make th e restart. Reaching th e co rn er first was Sch n itzer, th en Dav is, Gerrard, S u ll iva n, Wilson, Stocks, Aseltine a nd Fitzh ugh. Wil son didn 't waste a ny ti me in moving by S u lli van, and soon he was p ressuring G errard until h e fina ll y got by h im a lso. Davi s slid by Sch n it zer o n lap two a nd went o n 10 th e win, never look in g back. Th e track was br eak ing u p quite a bit but Davis rode an excellen t inside lin e that kept hi m o u t o f trouble. The starting order rema in ed th e same rig h t to th e chec kered flag, Ted Abe rnethy took the lead in th e second hea t race, followed by R ussell Norman (H on) , Kerr y Ben yo n (Yarn), Kevin Davis (Han), Keith Daves (Hon ) a nd Wa rd Rogers ( H o n ). On lap two , Da ves moved by Rogers and Norma n began push ing Abern et h y. LA Old Timers Winter National By Bob A lloy P ERRIS,CA, JAN. 25-26 Perris Raceway was th is year' s choice for th e L os Angeles Old Timer 's Winter National. It was a two-day even t with ·64 riders o n the line fo r p ract ice Sa tu rday. Riders from Nevada and Sierra ch ap ters were th ere to add 10 th e ' exci temen t a nd sport . Two mot os were run eac h da y, with an average o f eig h t laps p er mota . The tra ck was a ch a lle nging o ne, with many jumps a nd lot s o f studder bumps. Jim Smith of the Master 's Class took th e overall win with a I- I win o n Saturday a nd l-l on Sunda y. Ri chard Schilling from th e Sierra O'T Chapter cap tu red second o vera ll with a 4-4 o n Sa turday a n d a 2-3 for Sunda y. Ron R yer won th ird ove ra ll with a 3-3, 3-5 tall y.
