T he last m ot o was agai n Millan , Kin g , and Ja ckson. As th ey dueled , Kin g mad e hi s mov e a nd got around , a nd by next lap J ackson m oved into second. Despite a gall ant seco nd rnoto by King , hi s third-p lace fini sh in m oto one was h is downfa ll , and first o vera ll. o nce again.went to Jackson. Another Honda rid er , Ra nd y Barfield from Georgia , was in thi rd ; Clay Pl a res, (H a n) in fourth. On the second lap, Albert Anui llon, o n a Kawa saki , edged hi s wa y to fourth as P lares went endo ing o ver his handleba rs. A co u p le o f rid ers went by a n d Pl ar es wa s up a n d a t it again. But before long Pl ares wa s d own again , th is time in a turn . I U tterly exa spe ra ted , he got up and j tried aga in. Barfield no w was second behind Phillips, H ouston third a nd Anuill on founh. The foll owing lap, Barfield's lu ck ran o u t as he crashed a nd DNF a fter injuring a knee th at was already h u rt. At the finish Phillips was still in first , Anui llon second, Houston third, and Fortson R u m ble, a ll the wa y from Thomasvill e, G eorg ia. fourth.
