a lap, Campbell was in second and
closing fast on Bruner. As they started
lap three, Campbell once more punch ed th e afterburner a nd flew past Bruner over the do u bles. Ca mpbell has a
very efficie nt style, stay ing low o ver
jumps, not was ti ng ai r tim e. Wh en
he took the seco nd mota win and th e
first pl ace money, he did allow himself one style jump at th e finish.

nine fro m each division going to th e
fina l, it was a nyo ne's g uess wh o
might win. Chad Sm art got the hol eshot and looked lik e he m ight pull
a way . Rob H errnanek was o n him
immediatel y and th e pressure rattled
Sm art right off th e track in th e third
turn and dropped him way back. By
this time Jason Neuman was up in
second a nd he passed H errnan ek in
th e m iddle o f lap three. T ro y Welt y
had a bad start, co m ing o ff th e line
almost last. H e rode furiou sly a nd
worked his wa y to third by lap four.
Now it 'was H errnanek wh o felt th e
pressure and tal1pled with a hayba le.
Wh ile Hermanek wa s recovering ,
Welt y blew past but did not have
eno ug h time to ca tch Neuman. Neuman took th e overall a nd Welt y got
second.
The 125cc Beginners a nd No vices
both had a pa ir of qualifiers and a
final. Beg in ner Mike Loftus had a
seco nd a nd two firsts, but th e last first
is th e o ne th a t gave him first o vera ll
Beginner. Justin Souza ra n seco nd to
Loftus in th e quali fiers a nd wound
up there in th e final as well. The best
th at Novice Guy Deckert could do in
the qual ifi ers was th ird , bu t in th e
final , he hit the gate full -on a nd
flash ed to th e fin ish a nd th e win. Several riders tr ied to stay with h im a nd
several cras hed . At the end , David
Noel had th e best surviva l rate a nd
took second overa ll 125cc Novice.
The women of CRC have their
own class for 1986 and. a t An aheim ,
th ey had the track for thei r race as
well. T hea Gav in got th e holeshot in
moto one, bu t Gale " MX Mo m "
Webb slid past before th e first la p was
over to tak e the lead a nd th e wi n.

In th e 60cc rac e, an Interm ed iat e,
J eff Dement o f Nacogdoch es, Texas ,
was th e sta ndou t sta r. With a spectac ula r style, Dement literall y flew to
the lead in mot a one a nd led a ll th e
wa y, despite despe rat e attemp ts by
Expert Damon Huffman to get past.
In moto two, Dem ent was in th e lead
from the drop o f th e ga te a nd it took
Huffman until th e last 15 seco nds to
get pa st. Being in different classes,
th ey both took firsts.
The 80cc Stock Beg inner class was
the first o f many with a n en try large
enough to requ ire two qualifier mot os
with th e top nin e ride rs from eac h
di vision go ing o n to a wi n ne r tak e a ll
final mota . It was a lmost unnecessary to run th e fin a l. J eff Griffin a nd
Jason Miller con trolled th eir d ivision
in the qualifi ers and ca me back to
fin ish 1·2 in th e final , a lt hough Griffin had to over come a bad start a nd
claw his way to the lead a nd th e win.
