MOTORCYCLE INDUSTRYS Bought The latest thing in desert racing is a combination of a knobby tire and closed-cell-foam, airless innertube from Michelin , The foam tube, called "Bib Mousse," can't go flat and has been used i n rocky sections of the Baja 1 000 and ParisDakar events by Team BMW. The catch is prolonged very-high-speed running, especially on pavement or dry lakes, can cause the foam tube to overheat; when that happens, the tire spins on the rim. At one point in the Baja 1000, 8MW's Gaston Rahier used wire to secure his bike's rear tire to the rim. In slower. rougher sections. the Bib Mousse works well and makes punctures impossible. Tire and tube combinations are available in 901 90-21 ,140 /90-17 and 140/9018 sizes, and sell for about $ 160 to $170 retail. They're exclusively imported and distributed by International Cycle Racing Tires, 1845 Redondo, Long Beach, CA90804, 213/597-0339 . • EP Perfo rm s by BP &B In c.• o f Las Vegas.
