VOLUME 57 ISSUE 28 JULY 14, 2020 P89 S TANDOUT FEATURE Combines Italian design with everyday comfort RIDER AN ALYSIS When I first heard that I'd be testing a new women's boot, I was excited—and hesitant. My feet are wide, and it's always been an ordeal to find comfortable shoes (imagine spending hours in the shoe store, trying on at least two sizes in each style, casting longing glances toward the men's section— that's me). So, I always enter new shoe relationships hopeful, but ready to be disappointed. Enter the Gavia. They look like high-quality Italian boots, so you really can't go wrong there. But a life of shoe envy has taught me that you can't count on looks alone. There comes a time when comfort matters. You can wear almost any boot for a little while on a bike, but if you're going to be walking around once you arrive at your destination, you need more than just looks. The Gavia is a solid, sturdy boot, but not overly heavy. I was surprised by how well it combines side-to-side rigidity for ankle sup- port with front-to-back flexibility. You can comfortably hike up a hill in them (I did), and the breathable yet waterproof Gore-Tex front and back panels bend with your foot. The footbed is nicely contoured (Sidi says that the fit and cut are specific to women's feet, and it feels like it.). The boots are wide enough that I could imagine walk- ing a festival or motorcycle show without needing to bring a pair of sneakers to change into. And I also appreciated how easy it is to zip them up—thanks to the elastic panel that runs parallel to the zipper. If you're ready for a new pair of boots, you should take a serious look at Sidi's all-new Gavia Gore- Tex boots for women. I've finally found my ideal boot. Brittany Dowdle LOWDOWN •None for me! •Comfortable •Well-made, with Italian styling •Sturdy T he Gavia Pass is one of the highest passes in the Ital- ian Alps and is often used in the Giro d'Italia, a grueling bicycle race known for unpre- dictable weather. The name is perfect for this all-weather boot made by Sidi, an Italian company known for their high-quality bi- cycle and motorcycling footwear. The Gavia Gore-Tex Women's Boot is constructed with full grain microfiber synthetic leather uppers. The microfiber mate- rial has similar characteristics to genuine leather, but it's not affected by aging, and it's engi- neered for long-lasting quality, stability, breathability and water resistance. When combined with the Gore-Tex waterproof and breathable membrane and the Cambrelle lining, these boots are certain to keep your feet warm, dry, and comfortable. External outer ankle protection panels along with internal heel, inner ankle and toe protection, and a polymer toe shift pad, all provide additional protection for CE-level compliance. Removable arch supports and nonslip rubber Sidi-branded soles are the finish- ing touches to these premium sport touring boots, which are offered in women's Euro sizes 37 through 43.
