Once straigh tened o ut, Zahrt pulled o u t the sto ps and wa s in seco nd p lace mi dway th ro u gh th e first lap. At th e en d o f lap o ne , Zahrt had th e lead locked in an d cruised to the ch eckers . Rick Long and Ma rk Heller worked their wa y a ro u nd ot her earl y front runners to fini sh second and third Vet Expert behind Zahrt. Bu rk ey h eld on to his lea d in th e Ov er 30 class, but Bro wn lost hi s Ov er 40 lead to Bob' Dahlgren a fter a midrace tussle. Zah rt was back in the combined Pro an d Intermedia te rac e, getting a go od start and leadin g from the onse t. Brad McLeod (Pro Circuit/ Scott) was not too far behind in seco n d; and at th e end of lap on e, th ey wer e jo ined by Russ Wageman on a n Open bike in th ird . First l2 5cc was Mike Kiedrowski, followed by Jim Simons. Wageman moved into second on the seco nd lap a nd set h is sights on Za hrt. He might have ca ugh t h im bu t blew a rear tire co m ing ov er a big ju m p on th e back side of th e co urse o n la p th ree. With Wageman gone to the p its for a tube, McLeod was back in second an d trying to ca tch Zahrt. He cl osed th e ga p to with in five seconds by the last lap a n d was o n ly a few bikel en gt hs back wh en Zahrt too k th e chec kers. Eric Marnoch in herited the O p en bik e lead and that win wh en Wagem an lef t to ch an ge tires. Kiedro wski had m oved to th ird overall a t th e fin ish a nd easi ly won th e l 25cc Pro class. Wageman reen tered th e race an d finish ed one lap down. Open riders David Simon a nd Dan Abd ell a got in to a ba tt le ri ght off th e line a t th e start o f th e Novice even t. Don n y Seivertson led th e 250s. and Brian Na il topped th e 125s. Seivertson moved in to th e overa ll lead o n la p th ree a n d sta yed the re for the overa ll a nd th e 250 wins.
