was riding a 250 Honda. The Pros fell like dominos in the first moto, which allowed B class leaders Tony Graves (Hon) and Kelly Whelchel (Kaw) to work their way into the Pro pack. Beyer led the group until he crashed, allowing Olsen to take the lead after both Brumwell and Keller went down. B leader Whelchel crossed the finish line behind Olson, Brumwell and Beyer. Beyer took the holeshot in the secondmoto, but fell in the early stages to give Keller a lead he would nev~ relinquish. Whelchel took a I-I 10 the B portion over Graves (2-2), and series point leader Rob Annen (Kaw) finished the day with a 3-3 tally. Richard Earle (O'Neil/Seer/Hon) won the 30-40 Pro race by sweeping both motos over Dave Weleber (Hus). Weleber took holeshots in both motos, but the 29-year-old Earle (a 15-year racing veteran), nabbed Welebertwice to finish I-I. In the first moto, Weleber was only 10-feet from the checkered flag when Earle gassed it off a finish line jump and sailed over the Husky rider's head to take the win. Weleber fell prey to Earle early in moto two. Steve Nitschke (Suz) claimed first overall and Mel Sailing (KTM) took second in the 30-40 B class. Results 125 PRO: 1. Gary Beyer (Kaw); 2. Peterson doubles at CMC Night National By Chris Boice GARDENA, CA, NOV. 22 Honda-mounted Todd Peterson scored three decisive mota wins and one second-place finish ta take the overall in both the 500cc and 250cc Pro classes at the Continental Motosports Club Night National at Ascot. Rick Atkins (Suz) got, the holeshot, but lost the lead to Peterson a few hundred yards into the race. For four laps Peterson hung on to a precarious lead, with Willie Surrall and his FMF Honda stuck to him like glue. At the end of the fourth lap, Surrall flew by Peterson like a slingshot on the big sweeper before the finish line. Meanwhile, Russ Wageman (Yam), Tim RutherCord (Kaw) and Bob Moore (Suz) had been dicing for third. Wageman had It in the bag until he went down momentarily in the Courth lap and lost both third and fourth place to RutherCord and Moore. SUTT3ll held off a determined Peterson and took the flag with a lead of just a few feet. M-Star star Pete Murray was quickest off the line at the start of moto two, with Surrall, Moore and Peterson in pursuit. Halfway through lap one, Surrall retired to the pits with a broken machine, leaving Murray to defend his lead agai'nst Peterson, who had just overtaken Moore and moved up to second. By the end ofthe second lap, Peterson passed Murray, and at the beginning oC the fourth lap, Moore also got by Murray and proceeded to push Peterson right down to the Jl~,.lJ"~ J..t'1')1 .. .l t (I checkered flag. Wageman ran a constant fourth, but took a third overall, and Moore was second. Peterson dominated both oC the 500cc motos, vying with Ron Turner (Cag) Cor first in moto one and with Murray in the second moto. Murray was second overall with a 3-2, and Dan Berg was third with a 4-4. Surratt came back in the 125cc Pro class to take the holeshot in both rounds and win without achallenge. Turner was second overall with a 4-2 tally, with David Graff, riding a Kawasaki, third overall with a 3-3. Kawasaki-mounted &!an Blanchard had two convincing victories in the 250cc Intermediate class, winning the first moto with a comfortable 10second lead. Steve Sequeira (Kaw) was second overall and Chris Boice (Hon) was third. Chris Young (Yam) took control of both the 125cc Intermediate motos, taking thejump off the line and staying out in front all four laps of each moto. Brian Belew (Kaw) and Blanchard (Kaw) finished second and third in both motos. Bob Watson (Kaw) took overall honors in the 500cc Intermediate clash, sharing moto wins with Yamaha-mounted Larry Gross. Gross crashed hard over the crash wall doubles in the first moto, but came back to clinch the second moto victory and take second overall. Marc Peters (CA) was third with a 2-3. Vet Pro Gary jones (C-A) won both moios with Suzuki rider Ross Maeda in the second spot. Robert johnson (Hon) was in third in the first round and jeff Blix rode his TT600 to a third in the second round and a third overall. Shane Trittler (Yam) took a commanding lead in both 80cc Expert ,.. motos, with Craig Miller (Kaw) and jody Tapia (Kaw) swapping second and third back and forth. Miller overcame Tapia in the end and got second overall, pushing Tapia to third overall. The 500cc junior race was a bout between moto-journalists Mitch Boehm (Kaw) and Karel Kramer (KTM). Boehm won both motos with Ken Faught (Hon) finishing se.cond in the first moto and Kramer taking second in moto two. Faught was second overall and Kramer's 4-2 netted him a third. • ~UBLIC NOTICE .
