It seemed as though Whitmore was on his way LO a second moto vicLOry but he could not shake an everpersistent Healy, who passed him on the eight lap. The two diced for the rest of the moLO, with Healy hanging on for first place, giving him second overall. Whitmore charged in for a second place moLO finish for first overall while Kawasaki-mounted Timothy Regrutcapwred third place and the overall Intermediate victory. In one of the larger classes of the day, the Open Beginner contest, Greg Minor on his Husqvarna dominated both' mOLDS for the overall victory with Yamaha pilots Gordon Tucker, and Erik Brown bauling for second and ·third respectively. Some good racing was also seen as Kawasaki-mounted Edwin Wolleson ended the day with first place)n the 250cc Junior class after nabbing first in both mOLDS. Skip Gillian and Jim Aheens, both on Yamahas, rounded out the I.Op three. . Results 500 PRO: 1. Scott Larson (Vaml; 2. Chris Shaw (Kaw). 250 PRO: 1. Vince Warren (Vaml; 2. Mike Ant· chiffe (Kaw); 3. Myerscough, Surratt, Ray score Pro wins at Edwards By Terry Rezek LANCASTER, CA, DEC. 2 Brian Myerscough, Willie Surratt and John Ray scored the big wins in the 125, 250 and 500cc Pro classes today at the emi-annual California Racing Clubs/Edwards Air Force Base Motorcycle Club motocross. The 125cc Pro race was a non-stop screaming ballle. Surrall h<.ld his Honda just inches ahead of the Yamah<.ls of Myerscough <.Ind Eddie Hicks at fall of the gate. Those three weill flat out for six laps, never more than two bike lengths apart. In lap seven, Myerscough blew a super soft turn and Hicks shot by. Myerscough was right back in the fray but, barring a bobble on Hicks' part, he would not be able LO pass. Surrall, Hicks, and Myerscough finishtod in that order just a close at the end as they were at the start. Myerscough got the holeshot in moLO two with Hicks and Surrau immediately behind. Surrau went down for no apparent reason before the lap was 20-seconds old and fell . back LO fifth. He eventually worked his way back up LO third but the momentum was gone. Myerscough and Hicks continued their figbt without pause and Myerscough took the win with a sparse three-second edge. They finished with a three-way points tie <.It the end so the secondmOLD finishing order was the overall order as well. . Surrall was fastest Qff the line at the start of molO one of the 250cc Pro event, but Hicks was fastest through the second turn and took the lead. Jon Zahrt was third, then A.J. Whiting, and Kenny Zahrt. Whiting passed Zahrt in the middle of the second lap, and then brother Kenny started pressuring Jon and got by when Jon softsided in a turn. It looked as if that would set the finish. Not so. With only a lap and a half fo go, Hicks' bike died at the very bottom of the course and everyone moved up a notch. Surratt took the win, followed by Whiting, Ken Zahrt, Joe Hopkins, and Jon Zahrt. The 500cc Pros mixed it up a little more. Ray was just barely ahead of Tim Hanna at the start of moLO one, and they were both shadowed by Dave Welty. Ray slipped just long enough in lap three to let both Hanna al'!d Welty by. Welty almost immediately took the lead and went on for tbe moto win. . In molO two, Ray went right to the. lead and stayed there for the win and the overall. Welty chased him for six laps and Hanna chased Welty. Hanna finally slipped by and took second and second overall with Welty finishing third. Results PEE WEE: 1. Robby Hammond (Vam); 2. Pablo Lara (Vam); 3. Jerry Aleman (Yam).
