e ~- ~ .No. 77 EDDIE· WIR1lI •.• Congratulations on winning the 46 Roa ClU. Sprint 0Ir Ouunpionship Northern California's Kip Webb took his ~.ta to second- and third-place finishes at the Schreiber Cup/Dam Trial doUble-header. minutes before the final loop sweep began. Ted Gansberger topped Senior A's with a score of 83. John Husmann talljed nine more points to take second by 13 over Gary Conrad. Winner Gan~bergerscored three cleans while Husmann managed njne of this class' ! 5 7.ero rides. Peter Croft made a shamble of the Novice class with a 38 point victory margin, scoring 16 of the 42 cleans. Closest to Croft's 52 was 90 by Tom Englehardt. Dave Montgomery finished with a 92. Bill Haskel and Greg Bush took fourth and fifth. Robert Overton's 116 topped the Senior N class. Mick Vanaman had more cleans (seven to two) but finished with six more points to take second. He topped Ed Alari by five. James Grove posted a 19, good for a three-point victory in Beginner action. Kurt Roll tallied 22, Javier Amezcua came up with 26. Charlene Latimer, the event's only female rider, finished 12th. Steve Hill had Senior B to himself, . finishing with a 27 as the other two entrants DNF. Head's two wins over the weekend enabled him to complete a year in which he won every trial he entered - with the exception of three world rounds. He remained undefeated in PITS, ATA, and National competition. Dam Trial setup was supervised by 1986 VOTE president Scott Annand. His primary helpers included Gary Conrad, Joe Fasola and Bob Morris. Annand indicated that his club is withdrawing from the ATA as of January first. "We want to go in a different direction. We're going with the AMA District 37. The ATA wanted a dual sanction, but the district wants us solely sanctioned by them. There will be four, maybe five events over the year. The Schreiber Cup will be one of them, and probably the Dam Trial." • Explalnmg the pullout, Annand stated, "We sent a letter to the ATA in December of 1984 stating that if things didn't change, we would probably leave in 19R6....Wevot donJthi.satpur r t: -( j .)', ) J , tt I ~..J) -j., • ovember meeting. We want people to know about trials. Right now we have a good opportunity. There's interest from Yamaha and Honda. Our events will be listed on the AMA events calendar and ATA riders will be welcome at our events." The VOTE pullout leaves the American Trials Association with three participating clubs - Plonkers, SCTA, and SDTR. Outgoing ATA president Matt Pritchard indicated that the ATA is looking to unify operation in the future. One step is the reorgani7.ation of their class structure for 1986, following recommendations of the North American Trials Council. The five basic classes: Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced and Expert. There will also be four Senior classes - from Beginner to Advanced - and a Kids class. Pritchard expressed regret over VOTE' decision and hoped that the situation could be resolved at some time in the future. Although Scott Heag called the day a fun trial as he dropped 41 points in 40 rides, a look at the score in most of the classes indicated that Schreiber Cup section sele.ction apparently carried over to the following day. Excluding the two Beginner classes, only two riders - Head with his 41 and Peter Croft with 52 No~ice points - tallied less than 70. Winning scores in the Amateur and OVlCe classes - Amateur 82, Senior A 83, Novice 52, and Senior N 116 - indicated a tough day in the trenches for most of the starters. • Results EX: 1.
