Stern led every lap for the win and the championship. Kopecky diced with Terry Statum (Suz) for second place, giving way on lap four as Statum motored for second. Statum took top honors in the 750cc Superstreet division as well. Having cured his mechanical problem on the big Ninja, Earl RoloH roared away from everyone in the Open Superstreet class. Track timing had him turning 1:31s at 99 mph average, as he took the win. Class points leaders Kenny Kopecky and Jeff Stern settled the issue of who would be king, as Stern got around Kopecky on the first lap and placed second way behind Roloff. Curtis Adams (Yam) came home in third spot. Kopecky did not go home emptyhanded, as he sailed for the win in Open Modified Production ahead of Greg Blink (Kaw) and Sean Leipold (Yam). Blink and Leipold conducted a spirited battle for second place, with Blink prevailing by half a bikelength at the checkered flag. The 450cc Superstreet class saw Kenny Nachman cruise for the win, followed by David Morris (Yam) and Chuck Morton (Yam). Frank Callinicos (Yam) blazed through turn nine on the final lap to take fourth, overtaking three riders who had been dueling for the fourth spot the entire race. There was a three-rider fight for the win in Formula Two between eventual winner Andrew Leisner (Han), Bob Dewitt (Yam), and Pete Carroll (Kaw). Dewiu led after one lap. followed closely by Carroll and Leisner. By the third lap Leisner had gotten past both to take the lC'dd. On the fifth lap Dewitt out-braked Leisller jnto turn one and retook the lead. Leisner wouldn't quit and repassed for good on turn two of the last lap for the win. Ron Sharp took the hole hot in lhe 600cc Stock Production race, only to be passed by Gary Tatsumi (Yam), Chuck Waychorr (Kaw) and David Neal (Yam) in order. On the fourth lap Art Kawaguchi (Hon) bailed hard in turn I "'0; as a resuh the race was red-f1agg,~1. At the restart the race was resumed with [our laps completed. Tatsumi did not make the restart. Sharp got away first again. After two laps Neal led, followt'd by Sharp and Waychoff. This order held until Sharp out-brakc..-d Neal into turn one on the last lap for the. lead. Neal stayed close and ran Sharp down in turn nine to tak,' the win by a wheel. Waychoff Cdme in third, Results F-1: 1. Jeff Stern (Suz); 2. Terry Statum (Suz): 3. Kenny Kopecky (Klw). OPEN SS: 1. Dyck went I-I to win the 125cc Pros, while Seattle area rider Scott Ty ler took I-I tallies in two classes, winning the 250 and Open Pro contests. Several classes were overlIow status. which made for thrilling preliminaries; such was the case in the 125 and 25OccCclassl.'s. A IO-rider 12:x-c C consolation was well-loved by the chilled crowd and won by local Salem rider John Gregson (Team Taylor Kaw), But in the I 25cc C main, Gregson had sour luck and finished well back in the 15-rider final, which was won by Chad Egge on the Don's Equipment-sponsored Suzuki. Egge ·pulled away from early traffic to lap the majority of the field en route to the win, while Dan Gregory (Hon) and Kawasaki pilot Tom Kuschnik were second and third.
