I Sixty-five riders braved the 20° arctic temperature and six inches of fresh snowfall at round five of the AMA Fall Six Pack Series held this week at Albany Speed· way. Today's big winner included combined Pro class winner Kenny Olsen and Bob Leach, victor in the 30-40 class. In the combined 30-40/01d Timers race.s, Leach (Leach Cyclel Albany SX/Kaw) took command over class points leader Richard Earle (O'Neall Hon) in the first snowy molO. B riders Steve Nitschke (Suz) and Kawasaki rider Rusty Garrison gave chase on the incredibly slick track, but it was Leach giving the field a destructive blow, dominating the race. Moto two was also won by Leach on a 250 Kawasaki, followed by the 500 Honda of Earle. Leach took a I-I win over the 2-2 of Earle. Nitschke took the 30-40 B portion by holding off Garrison and Old Timer Don Colt (ATK). The Pros ran combined in the longest motos ofthe day and just like everyone else, they had tbeir share of problems circulating the icy track. Olsen (ATAK/O'Neal/Kaw) holeshot in moto one, followed by Rod Keller (AnswerlSilkolene/Roseburg Hon), Earle and Gary Beyer (Kaw). Olsen, on a 125, did a superb job of staying on two wheels the longest to stay in the lead and hold under pressure from KeIler, who mounted· a charge only to crash and finish tbird, letting Earle slip past to grab second. Series leader Beyer borrowed a KXL25 (his Kawasaki was stolen at the Salem arenacross) and finished fourth at moto's end. The second round was hampered by a solid snowstorm which saw Keller grab the lead over Olsen, Beyer and Earle. Beyer crashed which put Earle into a battle with Keller, who dropped to second when Olsen slipped past. Just when things were looking up for Olsen, the L25cc pilot dumped his KX and gave the I.ead to an on-the-move Keller. Olsen mounted a charge to nab second and take a 1-2 for the overal1 to beat Kel1er (3-1) and Earle, who had a 2-3 for third. Rob Annen (ATAKlKaw) has ridden consistently throughout the AMA Six Pack Series, finishing in the top five in each event thus far. Annen stayed on two wheels long enough 10 chase first-moto winner Tony Graves (Hon) lO the checkers in the first 250cc B outing. Annen topped molO two ahead of Graves to take the overall via his 2-1 performances over Graves' 1-2 and Wes Hanson (Kaw), who edged out series contender Brad Johnson (Kaw) for a 4-3 third. Califor· nian Donny Herron (Yam) lOpped the 250cc C portion of the race in molO one but was shut out by Don Schneider (Hon) in the second, los· ing the overal1, putting Scbneider inlO the winner's circle with a 2-1 to beat Herron's 1-2 and the 3.,3 of Ray BruinglOn (Kaw). Graves (Hon) won both super snowy 125cc B motos on his trusty CR, beating Yamaha-mounted Dan Mathis in a slip· 'n-slide race. Johnson (Kaw) was third, but took second 10 Graves in moto two 10 nab second in the overalls and keep his title hopes al ive. The I25cc C class went 10 Mark Nored (Eastside Kaw), who beat series C class leader John Greg-. son (Kaw) in both outings, while third fell to Rob Spring (Kaw). SmaIl machines had the most diffi· culty circulating the frozen course. Even sensational Ryan Huffman had his share of ups and downs. Huffman won both 60cc A molOS in a combined AlBIC outing over Danny U1ven (Kaw). Roby Leach (Kaw) beat Chris Patterson (Kaw), to nab the B portion while the C win went to lach Rund (Hon). John Feeley (Eastside Kaw) did a number on the 80cc B/C class, beating Huffman with a I-I tally for the overall. The sensational performance came from Bobby Eyman (Yam), who won three 80cc races in a row over Scott Nored (Kaw) and Travis Berry (Yam). Results l'IRo: 1. Kenny 01.... (I(awI; 2. I In the American Road Racing Association's final race of the season at Willow Springs Raceway, veteran rider Earl Roloff won three of the four races he en tered by decisive margins. [n the 600cc Modified Production class, Rolo£[ (Kaw) disappeared from the field, taking the holeshot and the win uncontes.ted. Andrew Leisner (Kaw) finished second and SCOll Johnson put in a good ride to finish third, after getting a poor start. [n a surprising move, Roloff entered his baby Ninja ill the 75Occ. Modi fied Production class and smoked the FZ750s of Steve Cardillo (Yam) and Scott Johnson (Yam), who finished second and third respeGtively. Jeff Stern (Suz) and Kenny Kopecky (Kaw) came into the Formula One race separdted by four points in their quest [or the class Rt';lmpionship. ~~ HALLMAN TECH 2 .... MX BOOTS From S7 • 95 Reg.
