I am riding in the AMA District 37 Barstow to -Vega s race on November 30 to raise money fo r the Natio nal Asthma Center loca ted in Den ver. Co lo rado. T he Na tion al Jewish Center for Immunolog y and Resp irato ry Med icine (for merly the Na tion al Asth ma Center ) is th e onl y h osp ital of it s kind in th e Un ited Stat es. The center dep ends o n privat e donations for approx im at ely 40% of their operating costs. Rem ember, an ything yo u can pl edge will help. If 500 o f us pledged just Ie per mile, we co u ld raise 850; if 500 o f us pledged 5e: a mile. we could rai se 4250. . Thecross-country course from Barstow, California to Las Vegas, Nevada is approximately 170mil es. Pledges will be accepted in an y form . The following are some id eas for making pledges: I. So much per mile completed ( Ie, 5C:, 10c, etc.). If all 170 miles are completed, the to tal a mo u n t would be: l c per mi le = $1.70; 5e: per mile = $8.50; 10e: per mile = $17; 2. So m uch per mile with a lim it on miles pledged. 3. A fixed am ount (regard less of . miles completed). P led g es and /or co n tr i b u t io ns sh o u ld be sent to Tricia Artz, 721-B Atkins St., Ridgecrest, CA 92555 or contact a member of th e 100s M.C. before the race . Checks should be ma de payable to "National Asthma Center or National Jewish Center." All contributions are completely tax dedu ctible. As yo u probabl y already know, every yea r, th e Sierra Club tries to stop th e B-to- V race. Since I plan to make th is a n annual ca m paign, this co u ld possibly have so me effect on the AMA's battle with th e Sierra Club. MIKE MYE RS B-to-V #21 Ridgecrest . Editor Auto Husky As a rider for Husqvarna and havin g some input in th e testing and development of the 1986430 Husq varna Automa tic, I feel obliga ted to the poten tial cus to mer cons idering this model to inform hi m th a t he does not have to change the transmission fluid at every checkpoint as reported in the Cycle News coverage of the 1985 ISDE in Spai n. My motorcycle worked flawless ly and I changed transmission flu id a t the end of each da y.
