Huffman d idn't have as much luck in the 80cc A main , losing o u t 10 Wayn e Fra mpton a nd Bryan Steels. Burgess hol eshot the I 25cc A main event, but like man y of the rid ers on hand, hit a berm and slid out. This put teammate P h ill is into th e lead , where h e would stay for th e duration, whil e johnson jammed h is way into second. Burgess drove th e specta tors crazy w ith h is last-to-third ride in o n ly a few laps, but time ra n o u t a nd he missed J ohnson by a wh eel. Phil lis took a six-seco nd led to th e checkers over j ohnson, Burgess, Word and Beck . But H o rb an cr hed o n the opening lap, as caus ing a res ta rt. O n the seco nd take, it was H a rsha leadi ng, o ver Phillis (Kaw 125 ), Mike Zilgitt (Hon 250) a nd j ohnson (Kaw 125 ). Burgess slid o u t aga in a nd was in 10th p lace on lap tw o , a nd for a ll remaining eig h t la p s, th e focus wa s o n Burgess, who carved through traffi c. By lap six , Burgess had overta ken Word, Zil gitt and j ohnson to settle into third. Next, he nabbed Phill is wi th a n insi de stuff a nd set o u t after H a rsha. Shawn Highland (Kaw), Hodge smokes L.as Vegas MX By Dick Goodwin LAS VEGAS , NV, OCT. 20 J eff Hodge captured the overall win in the 80cc Novice 12-16 class today at the Las Vegas Motocross P a rk , while Danny Lamb an d Kevin Clark took second a nd th ird. In the fir st m ot o , Lamb blasted into th e lead down th e long start stra ig h t, but Hodge wa s hot on his tail as well as john Camden, Kevin Clark and Fabian Gomez. Early in th e moto, Gomez ba il ed over the doubles, while the lea d er Lamb crash ed in the back section of th e track . This gave the lead to Hodge, who was closely pursued by Clark, who had earlier passed Camden. Clark was on th e gas and eventually shot into th e number-one position, but Hodge never gave up. The two riders diced righ t down 10 the checkers with Clark narrowly taking the win over Hodge, and Lamb.
