Aft er north ern Cal ifornian Pat Linn won th e co nsola tio n , it was Errn ol enko 's cha nce to pe rfor m a nd everythi ng went as pl anned as h e easil y won th e B m ain. Ermolen ko ca pped the performance by doing a coup le o f spectacu lar w heelies as h e fin ish ed a head of Sprin g man a nd Bransford. T he m ain event featured th e slic ksta rti ng Fa ria agai ns t King , Lucero, Ayers, Correy a nd Robinson. Faria , Kin g and L ucero had transmissions o n th eir machines while the ot he r th ree did not (w it h th e exce p tion o f Robinson, but hi s was o n ly a n o rnament as i t wa s still un repaired afte r blowing in th e practice sessio n) . Fari a, o u t o f ga te three, took th e sta rt w ith King in hot pursuit as th ey en tered the first bend. Faria held him back until turn two, on th e half-mi le track, bu t Kin g go t by a nd im m ed ia tely began to bu ild a lead . It wa s o bvio us that ,barring mecha n ica l difficulties , the win was Kin g 's, but th ere was still so me p assing to be done. Drake TUCSON, AZ, OCT. 27 Carl os Serrano ran away wi th the first mota and held off a stro ng challenge by l2 5cc ace Michael Goodrich to grab the Expert Sweepstakes win at th e American O ff-R oa d Racing Association's Skoal Short Course Classic hel d at Tucson International Raceway. Ser rano, who's usually aboard a Husqvarna, rode an O pe n class Yamaha sponsored by Tucson 's Eastside Cycle and Malcolm Smith to victory. In the first moto, Serrano ra n away from th e competition , finishing with a 12-second lead o ver Goodrich and his 125 Suzuki. Mike Cooper (125 KTM ), James George (500 Kaw), and Amateur John Beaver (250 Yam ) rounded o u t th e top five. The second bout saw Serrano a nd Goodrich fight it out on the tight supercross-sty le course, with the lead changing numerous times, but Serrano got out front wh en it counted fo r th e win. / Goodrich earned th e 125cc Pro wi n 10 move wi thin two points of AO RRA 125cc Pro points lea der Bob O lson with one race left on the West ern States O ff -R o a d Champions h i p schedule.
