T h e en gine is packed into a new a lu mi n u m-a lloy frame, one developed, in sid ers say, with th e lesso ns learned from th e GS XR750 in mind. It is, lik e the GSX R7 50 fra me , made of extru ded, rectangu lar-section alu m inum a lloy tubing , a nd that tubing is n ' t si mply shaped like a bo x in cross sectio n, but in stead has bu ilt-up ridge a t the corners, for 5% ex tra stre ngth . T he a lloy itself, developed especia lly for Suzuki's m o torcycle fram es. is called MR787 in Japa n , (it isn 't listed with th e American Alumin u m Asso ciation ), and incl udes a lum inum, zin c, and m agn esiu m. Accordi ng to Suzuki engi neers, the ma teria l is especially good for welding a nd for the Alumite (AUO ') su rface trea tme n t S uzu ki uses, a n d is stronger in terms o f tensile strength a nd resistan ce to p ro o f stress a nd elongat ion tha n the STKM 13A tubular steel used in so me Suzuki fra mes .
