Voh lan d (Kawasaki MOlOr Corporation/Hi-Point)grabbed the holesho t and never let go o f th e lead in th e first round of the 125cc Pro race. While Vohla n d was pouri ng it on, Kim o Ca sey (Kaw) and T erry Bosta rd (Kaw) ba u led for second pl ace. Casey led Bosta rd until th e middle of th e fifth lap when Bosta rd made h is move. Bosta rd stretched out over a mid track j u m p, passed Casey , and hel d o n to tak e second behind Vohl a nd. In the second round , Casey too k the in side track , clos ely pursued by Ch ris Ladd (Kaw ), Bostard, an d Vohla nd . Voh la nd switched to th e o u tside lin e a nd passed Ladd , who had dropped lO third , bu t Voh la nd was cu t off by Bostard o n the inside turn , O n th e third la p Voh land finall y slipped by Bostard, and Casey dropped lO th ird. J eff Pesta na (Su z) cu t off Casey on th e in sid e during the sixth lap for a Voh land , Bostard, Pesta n a top- th ree fin ish . In th e Pro 250cc class, Greg Pen ningt on (H on) got the holeshot but quickl y rel in quish ed the lead to Vohland. Voh la nd opened up h is th ro ttle for a n im p ressive 2:01 lap ti me , passing the checkered flag with a n airborne ta ble-top leap . In the second round, Geor ge Ho ppe r (Ma llou Cycl e) j u m ped o u t into th e lead with Vohla nd a close seco nd but Voh land's engine ga ve o u t a t the top o f the h ill during lap three. Bostard an d Pesta na battled for second , with Bostard dominating at th e finis h behi nd winner H opper. Mythen (Diablo Sports Cycle/ Cycle Gear) raced hi s H onda 10 victory in th e O pen P ro class. Bill J am erso n (Hon ) grabbed the ins id e lin e in the fir st turn , bu t Mythen slipped past on th e straightaway. J a merson held o n to seco nd u ntil th e four th lap when H onda rider Devon J oos cu t h im o ff o n a berm. Whi le Myth en stre tched out h is lead , J amerson a nd J oo s jock eyed for second place, with J oos dominating. Chappy Blose was - seco nd into the first tu rn o n Mi ke Mclntyre's KX. which he borrowed when Blose's Husky lost spark during p rac tice. Honda -mounted Eric Kir k and Kawasaki ace Scott Keys were h ot o n Blose's heels. Myer slid his Kawasaki on la p two an d allowed Meyers to move into th e to p slot o n h is Youn g Cycle Supplybacked Honda. Whitaker's H onda was th ird but Wi lli e G iroir's Kawasaki was a p p lying serio us pressure fro m fourth . By la p three, Myers pu lled out a su bsta ntia l lead , bu t Meyer was up and on th e ga s, an d passed Myers on lap five . G iro ir got around Whitaker , wh ile Meyer took th e chec kered flag with Myers having to settle for second. Third went to Giroir with Whitaker in fourth. Moto two was a com p letely different race as Giroir got the . . . ot with holesh . ... . ~ .. Wh itaker right beh ind - a nd Myers was las t. Giroir held onto the lead in sp ite of the determined efforts of Meyer , who dropped Whitak er back.
