Saturday's six-hour CCS endurance race wa s run under less extreme co n d itions a n d was won by Chuck Lee and Steve Scotton on a n Alpine Suzuki/Perfection-ported GS750 Su zu ki. Lee' s co mebac k was expected aft er a mech anical fai lur e kept h im o u t o f contention a t th e Aspen Six-H o ur. He suffered no setback in this race; th e wet and sli p pe ry track worked to his adva nt age as he resorted to flat tra cking his road racer wh ere o the rs fea red to tread . Dick returns, Crevier finishes or By Alice Macpherson WE STWOOD, B.C" OCT, 12 When Steve Crevier pulled in to take th e checkered flag for a victory lap after his win in th e 600cc Cafe, he flipped his race . 42 sh ield up , let o u t a h oller a nd yelled , " I made it ! I didn 't fall down! " H e had good ca use to be elat ed . This win was the first time th at he had managed to stay on his wheels for any length of tim e all day. H e had cem ented th e cha m p ion sh ip severa l ra ces ea rl ier but went o u t a nd beat Doug Renfrow a nd Fra ser Exel just for good measure. Th e o n lv rid er who didn 't seem to hav e a ny pr obl em s on th e ru in-swept tra ck was Ga ry G ood fellow as h e rod e to yet another win in th e 750cc P roduct ion cl a ss ove r riva l Da ryl Cornwell. He took th e overa ll win in th e 500cc Pro class wi th a 2-1 score, a seco nd overa ll in th e 250ccclass, a nd a first in th e I25cc class with anoth er 2- 1 fin ish . Un known to hi s competitors, Hughes' left hand swelled co n side rably and he kept it in ice until race lim e. A det ermined Hughes overcame th e pain and less-tha n -secu re grip to win both motos. In the firs I, he had a bit of lu ck ; leader Mike Hernandez, sponsored by Yamaha Country, was proving impossible to pass until late in th e m oto when he fell off , giving Hughes th e victory a nd Ri ck Souza runner -up.
