Product Evaluation By Larry Langley Viper Products Lok-Lift motorcycle stand T he Lok-Lift is one of those trick goodies th at you love to bring out to use in fro n t of a crowd. It 's sure to attract atten tion . Every time we used the Lok-Lift so meone would in variably wander ove r to check it ou t. Mos t co m me nts were, " Wow, is that th in g neat !" Wh y is it nea t? After positioning it u nder you r bike's engine . yo u j ust ha ve to put your foot on the lever a n d step down and the bik e is li fted up off th e ground with m inimum effort . A hook ca tch es a latch so the bike rem ains up in th e ai r. Stepping o n the lever end in th e opposite di rect ion frees the catch so th e sta n d co mes down with Iiule effort. Owners of big fo ur-stro kes (like an XR500) will a pp reciat e h ow little effort it ta kes to get th e bik e up o n th e sta nd. Since the Lok-Lift lifts fro m 12 to 17 in ch es, the bike is well off th e gro u nd to allow easy mai nten ance. Chain lubing is a sn a p, as is wh eel rem oval. The p la tfor m has non-skid materi al on it to keep th e bik e from slid in g aro u nd. It wor ks beuer o n bikes tha t ha ve skid pl at es but wo rked we ll on n on-skid-p la te -equ ipped bi kes also . When in the u p position, th e bike is very sta ble, a ll owin g work o n it wi thout worryi ng if it is going to fall off. Since th e Lo k-Lift starts o u t at 12 inches of lift , o bvio usly a bi ke must ha ve a t least 12 inc hes o f ground cleara nce or th e Lok-Lift will not fit un dern ea th . We have had th e Lok -Lift for four months now a nd ar e very pl eased with it. The on ly problem is th a t th e plast ic in serts in th e end h ol es fall o u t ver y easi ly. Th e ro und tub ing that the lift pan slides o n ne eds to be lubed now a nd th en with a sp ray lubricant to en su re it slides freely. When we fir st recei ved th e Lok ' Li ft it retailed fo r $79.95. H ow ever. co nsu me r reception has been so good th at Viper Pro d ucts has been able to increase' producti o n a nd bring the price down to $69.95. We feel it is worth it.
