S. Suzuki -sponsored Lad y Libert y Trans-Cal Series at Ascot Par k. Ensey eas ily won both di vision o ne m oto s, whi le H a rrison used a 2- 1 18 com bina tion to cl inc h the division two class win. In the firs t divisio n-one m or o, Ya m aha rid er Rust v Rust blew o u t of the gate a nd into the lead at th e sta rt, whi le Kenny Madder (Kaw ), Da vid Parker (Yam) , En sey a nd Bran don Masrippolito (Han) closely foll ow ed . By th e seco nd la p , Ensey had a lready motored into the seco nd posi tion a nd started pressu ri ng th e lead er, Rust. For th e nex t two laps . the two leaders ban ged hand leb ar s a few tim es befor e Ensey moved 10 th e outside and passed Rust in a stra ig h t. O nce into the lead, Ensey pulled away slight ly, while Madder started 10 hou nd Ru st. T h e top three riders stayed close for the remainder of the ra ce, wi th Ensey cro ssin g the che ckered £la g in first, foll owed by R ust, Madder, Ken Smi th (Ka w) and Rick Nolte (Suz). Madder j umped into th e earl y lead at the start of th e second moto with Ensey, Smith, Nolte and R ust in close pursuit. For th e fir st two laps, Madder a nd En sey battl ed side -byside , but Madder staye d tough a nd held En sey back . Ensey never ga ve up , a nd h e soon fo u n d th e h ot line th rough th e wh oo p s a nd mo tored by Madder . Madder staved close 10 Ense v th rough out th e rnoto bu t co u ld n:t mak e th e pass. Parrent went o n 10 wi n th e race, fo ll o wed by Rood . H a r- rison, Espita a nd Bleech er. Once aga in, Pa rr ent sto le th e holeshot at th e start o f th e second rnoto wit h Rood hot o n his tracks. U n fo rtunatel y for Rood, th e Kawasaki rider gave it a liule bit too m uch th rottle th rough a hard-packed , slick turn a nd sli d out, dropping to th e rear o f th e pack. Th is gave the seco n d spot 10 H arr ison, who started reeling in Parrent. A ways ba ck in th ird a nd fourth were J ason Kihorian (Ya rn) a n d Kefa ta s. Wh il e H arrison was pressuring Parrent for th e lead. Parrent cras h ed and d ropped to th ird . T h is gave H arrison a h uge lead ove r Kefatas, who moved into seco n d after pa ssin g Kih or ia n a la p ea rlier. Wh en thin gs sta rted settling down, H ook er started dogging Gordy for fourth , but h is bid for th a t position ca rne 10 a n a bru p t end when hi s H usky lost co m p ressio n . With Piauo ni pu lling away. Valdez was less th an a bikel en g th behi nd Maddo x near th e ha lfw ay poi nt, bu t th e Suzu ki ri der started dropp ing off th e pace a n d lost sigh t of Madd ox . Instead , Maddox he ld o n 10 the lead a nd was pulling a way fro m P ia tton i by the third la p. G ord y was third for th e first two laps before Kawasa ki ri der Loren Pochrowski mo to red bv. Even tua lly Maddox opened up hi~ lead to a sizeable margin a nd crossed th e checke red flag out in front , taking th e · overa ll. Second overa ll a nd second in th e mor o fell to P ia u o n i, wh il e Poch rowski fin ish ed th ird fo r fifth overa ll, Va ldez used a 3-4 com bi nat io n to wra p u p thi rd overa ll. T h e fi rst d ivision-two mot o was a Davi s a ffai r - th e H onda rid er blasted into th e lead a t th e drop of th e ga te a nd never loo ked back . Last week 's Mad era su percro ss winner . Kaw asaki mounted Doug Belcher, held o n to second for th e fir st few la ps befor e Yamaha rider J oe Me lton slipped by. Belcher stayed close 10 Mel ton for the rest o f the mota bu t cou ldn' t make a pass. Davis easi ly wo n th e rn o to ahea d o f Melto n , Belcher and H onda riders J eff Reyn olds and Tim Whitlock. MOIO two wasn ' t so ea sy for Davis. H e did grab th e h ol eshot but went too wide in th e fir st turn , letting Ph il Douglas (Han) and Melton by on the inside. Do uglas led for two la ps before Melton and Davi s both passed th e leader in o ne m ove. From th en o n . it wa s a two-wav duel for th e lead. Dav is pressured Melton in every turn , but Melton stayed tough and wouldn 't give a n in ch . It wa sn ' t un til th e fin al lap tha t Dav is made h is move th rough th e wh oops a nd o u t-d ragged Melt on 10 th e next turn. Melt on stayed clo se but co u ld n' t retak e Dav is bv th e checke red £lag . Reyn ol ds fin'ish ed th ird ahead of Wh itl ock a nd Douglas. In the Vet Interm edi ate class, Bru ce Win free (Han , 250 ) roos ted into th e ' ea rl y lead , followed by Victo r Triep ke (AT K), Bret Le£ (H a n, 250) a nd Rich Will iams (Kaw). As Win free p u lled aw ay, Will ia ms wa s th e o ne to watch as h e labo red h is way th rough th e . pa ck. He took over th e seco nd position by t he seco nd la p a nd beca me gl ued to Win fr ee ' s rear fen der. 'The two stayed dose to eac h o the r for the res t of the race, but ' Vn free never i back ed orr a nd took the win ahead of W ill iams.
