Weslake) has become th e crowd favorite a t Speedway USA and he wan ted to give h is fans so meth ing to remem ber him by until 1986; i n th e main , he led w ire-to-wire and won by ha lf a stra ig h ta way, Correy was fir st out o f th e gate an d th en exe cu ted a wild wh eeli e down th e ba ck ch u te tha t left a ll of h is su p p o rters ga sping , but he wa s a ble to reco ver before a ny o f hi s three cha llengers got by. Sacramento 's Ro bert Curry was g iven th e unen viable tas k of chasi ng th e dimin u tive Correy a nd he gave i t h is all whil e trying to stave off the ad va nces of th ird -p lace Wa lt Farnum . W h ile Correy wa s cru ising, th e real battl e was between C urry a nd Fa rn u m , who were going at it handlebar- to -h andl eb ar for seco nd , In th e end it wa s Correy by a h uge margi n over Curry, Fa rn urn and Ed Th urman . Kent Bowser (Bo wser Equ ipment Co. Wesl a ke) won hi s second Handicap main event in a ro w before the crowd that wa s sma ller than usual d ue to th e World Series o n telev ision. Once again the d im inut iv e supers tar swep t th e Scra tch side of th e program and raced to another co n vincing win in the main event. C orrey (Ticke t M an ia / Fish i n g Boa ts U n limitedl Wright Fra mers / R o la nd L a Ma rch e, Inc./ G rin P roducts/Mo m & Dad Weslak e) has been the to p rider at the new speed plant since it opened in late August, and Sa turday n ig ht was no different. H e easily o utdista nced the pack in both h is hea t and semi before entering the mam . Co rrey wa s to face stiff o pposition in th e m ain as he wa s set to sq ua re off against 1985 Sou th ern Ca lifo rn ia Rookie o f th e Year J eff J ohns o n , Jeff Spri ngman a nd Mark Brooks. johnso n got th e ga te from position two . but Co rrey quickl y shoved h is fro nt tire a he ad in th e fi rst bend . H e th en sh ov ed h is front tire ahead in th e first bend. H e th en sho wed th e o p position his back a nd o pe ne d up a lead . Whi le Correy was ha ving it a ll hi s o wn way a t th e h ead o f the pa ck , Johnson was fighting o ff th e deter mined charges o f Sp ringma n for second. Springman had the heat turned up all the wa y, but Johnson held h im back a ll the wa y to the checkers. 35
