David Woodard relega ted Ne tto to seco nd spot in the 500cc heal, bu t in the ma in , Nella sh u t Woodward down and ran orr wi th the win . SEP T . 21 Ya maha ride r Mike Beier retu rned to ac tion toda y after a len gth y la y-off for kn ee surgery and proved that he h ad lost little of his blazing speed. Beier motored to a convinci ng 250cc P ro class win despit e stiff competition and a poor Iirst-rnoto start. Suzuki rider Tony Spear held o rr th e ch argin g Beier for much o f round one alter o verco m in g a cha llen ge from Yamaha pilot Chris T aylo r in th e ear ly go ing. After Beier moved to th e front, h e opened a co m ma nd in g lead o n th e fie ld . Spear placed seco nd ahead of T a ylor and H onda rider Bill SCOll. Spear and Beier aga in bauled for the lead in moto two , but Beier 's National ex pe rienc e carried him to a bi g lead as th e moto reached th e halfwa y point.
