Peterson powders Pros at Ascot By Chris Boice GA R DENA, CA, OCT. 4 Ascot ace T odd Peterson (Hon) took h om e th e prize money a n d a feeling of sa tisfactio n to n ight after the Continen tal Motosport Club nig ht mot ocross a t Asco t. Peterson won th e 500cc Pro class with a 1-2 score a nd bl it zed the 250cc Pro class with two fla wlessl y ridden moto wins. Factory Cagiv a rider Ro n T urner led the first 250cc Pro moto for almo st four laps until a mech ani cal problem sen t h im back to the mi ddle o f th e pack. Peterson inherited th e lead with Rob Trone (H a n) in seco n d an d Yama ha -supported J im H o lley in third. On the last lap, H oll ey go t by T ro ne in the rig ht han der befo re th e roc kers a n d followed Peterson at a d ista nce across the fin ish li ne. Tronewas th ird wh il e T urner n ursed hi s Cagiva back to h eal th and got fo urth . Peterson got th e h olesh o t in th e seco nd ro und, with Turner an d H olley in pursuit. H alfway th ro ug h the first la p , H olley shot pa st T urner over th e double j umps a nd set o u t afte r Peter son. For five laps, Peterson kept a comfort able 10 bikelen gths bet ween himself a nd Holl ey. When the checkered flag came down , Peterson too k the wi n and the overa ll, with Ho lley not able to ga in a fo ot in his pu rsuit and ha ving 10 sett le for a second and seco nd overa ll. Ron T urner a nd Mi ke Fedorow (Kaw) were third a nd fourth in th e mo ta and overall. Yam aha -moun ted Mi ke Pa scarella too k the lead o u t of th e ga te in the firs t 80cc Expert mo to, but by the en d of th e firs t la p , Scott Brow n (Han) had jam med by Pascarell a on th e T'T jump to take over th e num ber-one spot. Bro wn took th e che ckers with a six-seco nd lea d. Pasca rella was second a nd Paul Cort ez (Yam) was third. Cortezgot the ho leshot in the second m o to , bu t Ka wasa k i rider Steven Kot ajarvi took over the lead on the seco n d la p . Both Pasca rella a n d Brow n had fat e go aga ins t th em in th e secon d round and fini sh ed third a nd fourt h , respectiv el y. Carivau was a ble to avoid the lap ped riders a n d contin ued o n wi th the lead a n d mo ro win . Cariva u p ursued Ha u p tm an and ca ugh t hi m for the lead. Similar to th e first mota , it was Carivau, Haup tma n, Brow ne a nd then Laye with more hard luck. Mike Broo ks hel d the lead in the firs t ro u nd un til he seized hi s motor. It was th en Stan Hase's' turn to taste th e lead u ntil he crashed.
