All en Berluti (M·S) wa s third just ahead o f Greg Ziu erk opf (Hon), Simons took th e lead o n la p tw o, whi le Zitterkopf dis p laced Ber lu ti o n th e fo ll o wi ng lap. Ph il Larson (Kaw) got o ff to a bad stan but was quickl y mak ing u p time an d wa s in fift h o n lap five. Out front . Zitterk o p f took the lead at the start of m o to two with Berlu ti, La rson , Ellis, Simons and Dym ond trail in g . Dym ond went down in a tig h t turn and had to wa it for th e pa ck 10 go by before he co u ld ge t back o n hi s bike. Dymond got going la st, but severa l rid er s had run over his bike a n d he dr opped o ut a few la p s later. Both Larso n an d Ellis went by Berluti on th e seco n d la p, a nd Simons dropped h im furth er o n th e n ext circ u it. Larso n too k the lead from Zitrer kop f on the fif t h la p , a n d Simo ns we nt by Ellis fo r th ird. Brown cou ld n 't hold the lead for lo ng ei the r and dropped ba ck as Chris Young (Ya m) took co m ma nd . Col in Karcher (Yarn ) a nd Ch ri s Neal (Yam ) foll owed closely. On la p five Youn g 's bike quit, gi vi ng th e lea d to Karch er. A la p lat er Nea l p assed Karch er, but crashed short ly a fter. Karch er regained first a nd h eld i t to th e fini sh a head of Winn , R ick Sim me r (Han) , J imm y Button (H a n) a nd Tritt le r (Yam) . Brown too k fir st a t the start o f mot a two a nd led a seesaw battl e between Simmer a nd Young. Simm er began to put pressure o n Brown o n th e th ird la p when Brown ba il ed hard , giv in g th e lead 10 Sim mer. Befo re th e la p was up, Simmer was stopped a lo ng th e track a n d tryi ng to ben d h is shi fter o u t from undernea th th e G1SeS, handing th e lead to You ng . T h is tim e Young 's bike wen t the distan ce, tak in g h im 10 th e wi n over Tri tt ler.
