T eeters. m eanwhile. was working his way through the fie ld and fin all y caught the leaders on th e white flag lap. The 250cc Intermediat e class was th e scene of fast-paced action . Ed Rampa posted th e holeshot in moto o ne a nd led until he endoed a t th e ba ck bleacher sec tio n . Robby H arriso n inherited th e lead . but Jeff Palmer - rac ing in hi s fir st ever Intermed iat e race - soon elbo wed p ast for th e lead. As th e race wore o n . Rampa scra m bled back to challe n ge for first. u n ti l h e co ll ided w ith Pal m er a nd both went down. Palmer recovered first to win. with Rampa fini shi ng seco nd . Rampa gr bbed th e h o leshot a again in the seco nd ro u nd and Pal m er took u p th e chase. SEPT. 8 Bill y Stork ca me out of th e Bo rd erl i n e R aci n g Association's last regular points race at Sturgis Raceway with favorable results in th e sta n di ngs. Stork, riding Budwei ser-sponsored . Rex Conradp repa red Rice Cycle H onda s, traded mot o victories wi th Dave Molder in th e 250cc P ro ca tego ry a nd gra bbed th e overall wi th a ha rd -fo ught battl e in th e final round. Stork also tra ded m o to victories w ith LeeVern Ber ry in th e I25cc Pro class. bu t Berry' s cras hfill ed first moto dropped him to second behind Stork in th e o vera lls. Berry dogged th e H onda pilot for th e fir st lap until hi s Kaw a sak i began swapp in g viol entl y in a section o f silty wh oops an d Berr y went flai li n g into the grou nd. Stork n ow had a com ma nd ing lead while Mark Mu ell er ran in seco nd. Berry wa s ba ck in third. a n d Curt H yde wa s beg in n ing to battle back from a bad start. trying 10 get by H enry Jordon and Ra nd y Salverson. Berry started picking his spots to get by Mueller. then tried to fly inside Mueller 0 [£ a small double-jump when his bi ke landed sideways in a cov ered rut. Berry was pitched into th e ground. but h e jumped right back on. Slowly regaining his speed. Ber ry mounted yet a no the r charge, and in a few laps wa s back up on a battle between Hyde an d Mueller for secon d. H yde took over th e runner-up slo t, and while Berry was trying to motor into third he took yet anoth er spill. Stork took the win . with H yde. Mueller a nd Berry following. In round two. Stork aga in took the holeshot, while Mu eller stuffed his Honda inside Berry for seco nd. Berry ca me righ t ba ck in th e seco nd co rner to regain th e runner -up spo t. an d th e tw o riders began a battl e for th e front p osition. Stork held o ff Berry for th e fir st three laps. but th e Kaw asaki p il ot worm ed h is wa y aro un d Stork to tak e over the lead befor e th e halfwa y po int.
