Rose continues dominance in Colorado By Larry Johnson LAKEWOOD, CO, SE PT. 1·2 Ro bert Rose (Kaw) has won nearly every mo ta and overa ll he has raced this year in the 80cc Expert class, and today was no exce p tion as he came from beh ind 10 win each outing. Moto o ne was a ca kewa lk for Rose. Although he gat ed midpack, he had th e lead by the end of la p o ne. He th en left th e pack for an easy win ah ead o f An dy AIk in s (Yam ) and Derek Mize (Kaw), Rose aga in ga ted poorly in ro u nd two, bUI as he dropped off the jump heading for turn two , he was flyi ng . H e blasted into the turn on the ragged edge, but Atkins wa s right in front, a lso diving for th e berm. Atki ns overshot it and came 10 a halt straddling the berm, a nd Rose slammed in to him taking them both out. Whi le th ey gathered th emselves, the troops were gone wi th Jared Ramso ur (Kaw) in the lead. Rose remounted nex t 10 last with only Atkins behind. For 15 minutes, Ro se made a mad scra m ble 10 ge t to th e Iront with Atkins in tow , fin all y overco mi ng wh at a p peared to be a n insurmountable lead by Ra mso u r, an d ~o i ng on to win. Atkins reac hed third but co u ld not ca tch Ra mso ur . Da ve Newell (Kaw) kept uphis tor rid pace in th e Open Pros with two co nv inci ng victories. In rnoto one, he led from nag to flag , while Terry Kyle (Ya m ) spe n t the who le 30 m in utes wo r king up from th e rear. Kyle's charge led to a last-lap di ce with Bob H anrahan (H o n) for second. They swap ped p laces during a bar-banging final cir cu it with Kyle eventually ta king the position for good just befor e the finish lin e. Newell tried to make things interesting in round two by cra sh ing on lap one a fter ta king th e lead out o f th e ga te. He spent th ree laps chas ing Kyle, th en cru ised on by for a no ther easy win over Kyle a nd Hanrahan. Jim Mit chell (H o n) continues to be th e honesI rider in th e second half of the season.
