call do wn th e 12th rou nd knocko ut of a prize fighter . It seems that at times these announcers wer e u ninformed about what was actually happening . I'm hoping that th ese rough sp o ts will be smoothed ove r in future tel ecasts. Now for th e bad n ews: I saw an article en titled, " Mo torized Mayhem" in the G reensboro New s & Record on August 22. It deals with the C PSC's a n n ua l report on ATVs. Just reme mber: th e CPSC's a nt i-ATV material goes everywhere, to all th e wire services, n ewspapers, TV stations, etc . We, a s concerned motorcycle and ATV users , aren 't the onl y ones who receive Statler 's sta teme nts, so beware . . . WEST l-l Q.) ..0 8 .... Q.) 0.. Q.) CA Against BLM cooperation I saw Dave Ho lem an 's leller (C ycle News, August 28) and I feel Dave has covered most of the bases and I agree with h im 100%. It 's sad when someone who is somewhat inactive in the district at th is time has such good insight into our problem , wh ile peop le close don't seem to see it clearly. . The BL M will push us a s far as th ey ca n 10 make it tough to race desert, The next move will be to in crease our entry fees 10 $50 a rac e, since we pay $60 to race B-to- V. If you have doubts about th e intent of th e BL M, ask th e Phantom Du ck of th e Desert. If we do anything for the BLM. it should only be in trade for more riding ar ea . 9080 1·(H9 8 (2 13) 427·7 433: L .A. Li ne 636·88 44. EDD P RICE Box 2502 APO NY 09057 Street Crash I wa s so mewh a t m iffed over the letter p rinted in Cycle N ew s, Augus t 2 1, from Joh n Wyckoff regarding hi s opi nions on how mem bers o f th e moto rcycle in d ustr y in ad vert ising a nd p u blis hi ng, and I assu me myself in pa rticu la r, ha d h u rt th e im age o f th e in dus try by " us in g th e h igh wa y as a race trac k" beca use o f accident s some o f us were involved in duri ng th e SCPBRA motorcycle industry rid e to La guna Seca . There is no reason for me to p lay anti-socia l outlaw as Wyckoff implies, because had h e checked he wou ld have discovered th at I have rac ed AMA Pro for years a n d presently road race a 750cc Suzuki Superbike in three classes p er weekend in AR RA co mpetitio n at Willow Springs. My cras h on th e ride to Laguna Seca was my first street bike crash ever , it ha ppen ed w hi le riding ca u tio us ly at safe . posted speeds, and though I have no m emory of th e a ccident itself because of a h ead injury received in th e crash, it wa s probably ca used by a lapse in co nce nt ra tio n which was ca used by th e long tr ip at less-rhan-challenging spe eds. I would like to thank th e many people on th e rid e who came to m y aid a nd assistance a fter th e accident and provided support during m y time in th e hospital. JIM GIANATSIS G ianatsis Design Associ ates Canoga, Park, CA ESPN and the media Two separate items got my allention over the past week, one offering positive co n no ta tions, the other leaving me with quite a nega tive alii tude. It was gr eat to see timely supercross coverage back on ESPN. The August 17 Rose Bowl Supercross was tele cas t on Thursday , August 22. ESPN sports cov erage is a grea t asset to every even t that receiv es a ir tim e, 'an d I believe supercross will see a big increase in popularity if it gets ongoing coverage.
