O rr got arou n d Phil Darcy for th e wi n in the seco nd heat with Dodd Dyson taking th ird over Kidd. Darcy got the holeshot in the main , trailed by West, Kidd , Gl adwill an d Orr. Dyson wa s in sixth position until he slid down in turn four and was out of the ra ce. Orr went ins ide in turn three on lap one to p ass Gl adwi ll and Kidd for third. Kidd went to the edge of the tra ck in turn four a n d Brad Taylor followed Gladwill under Kidd a nd down the fro nt straight behind O rr. O rr got inside West in turn o ne on lap two , th en inside Dar cy in turn two for the lead o n lap three. West pr essured Darcy for second p lace but co uldn't make a pass and G ladwill held off Taylor by a wheel for fourth place. Saturday - TT Hull rounded out the series in th e 80cc TT as h e led Kay, Deri ck Whitener and Mark Burch to th e flag in the heat race before taking a wire-towire win in th e main event . Kay fol lowed Hull for the first lap of the main and th en su ffered mechanical fail ure going into th e turn to th e infield for lap two . Roger Sedarat took over to foll ow Hull to the flag ahead of Whitener with Burch taking fourth ahead of Brandon H ancock. Meyer took th e heat race in th e 125cc TT race, before leading the main event. His season- long rival, Surber, stayed on Meyer 's rear wheel for three laps, th en on lap four, used turn three of th e sh ort tra ck oval to get by on th e inside. Surber led Meyer to th e chec kered flag a head o f Roger Sedarat. In th e 250cc heat ra ce, it was Shaw, J o ll y, Harris and Kaufman a s th e front fo ur. Jolly led the main even t ahead of Shaw, Ben tley an d Harris. Shaw came out of the last co rne r wit h a h a rd drive from th e p o le; but co u ld n ' t get by Jolly wh o took the win by a wheel. David Thompson won th e Open Amat eurTTheat with Kaufman leading George Galdeen and T yer to th e flag . Kaufman go t th e h ol eshot in th e main followed by Thompson. T hey got togethe r co m ing o u t o f th e turn and Thompson dropped to fourth behind Surber a nd T yer . Thompson moved into third o n th e o u tside in turn four o n th e fir st lap. but T yer was still hurting from an injured pride sus tained in Friday 's race a nd used th e berm in th e rig h t-ha n d turn to pa ss Thompson o n th e n ext lap. On lap three, T yer pa ssed Surber o ff th e hi gh jump to tak e over seco n d place. leaving Su rb er to h old off Thompson. Thompson fin a ll y go t around Surber in th e Winston turn on th e la st la p and held on to tak e th ird behind T yer as Ka u fm a n ca ptured the win. The firs t Open Pro TT h eat had Dyson in th e lead a head of T aylor and To lbert when Dyson fell going toward tu rn one on the second la p . Tay lor m issed falling wit h h im . but killed h is mo to r as he went to th e wa ll to miss Dyson. Tolbert took th e wi n ahead of Kidd , a nd T aylor was a ble to restart to finish a head of Po wers . Orr won th e second h eat , fol lowed by Sh aw a n d Joll y. Kidd got th e ea rl y lead in th e main foll owed by Taylor, Jolly a nd Orr. but by th e end o f lap one it was T aylor a nd Orr in th e lead follow ed by Kidd, Dyso n a n d Shaw. On lap th ree, Dyson went under Kidd in the righ t-ha nd turn to tak e o ver third p lace. With on e lap to go , Tay lor a nd Orr cross ed th e startfinis h line togeth er. a nd th en Orr stalled his engine in th e turn to the in field . Dvso n went inside to ta ke over secOl~d place. Curtis/Redondo hack competition By Mike Ross CHAN DLER , AZ, AUG. 23 Friday ni ght motocross action saw sidehack pilots Mike Curtis and Todd Red ondo blast their 840cc Yamaha twin to doubl e wins on the tight a nd twisting Firebird Park track. The Curtis-Redondo team mot ored into th e first turn in moto o ne , with J erry Hughs a nd Elliot Chevenger 's 840cc Yam aha cl osing qu ickl y as the rest of th e ha cks sta rted to sp rea d out. Hughs kept on th e gas, but co u ldn' t make a p ass stick in sp ite of his Yamaha 's bett er drive off th e turns and had to tak e seco nd to C u rt is a nd Redondo . Mo to two sta rted with th e num ber pl at e o f Curtis a nd Redondo 's hack agai n so lid ly in firs t pl ace with th e number 17 hack o f Hughs a n d Cheven ger right o n th eir tai l. At th e chec kered flag, it wa s Curtis and Redondo 's Yamaha ahead of Hughs and Chevenger with th e Maico of Toby Lintz a nd Marjorie Neil back in third. Dennis Palmer 's Yamaha scored th e overall win with a hard-earned 2-1 finish in th e Expert Sweepstakes. whi ch tu rn ed into a dog fig h t from the drop of the gate. Honda veteran Roger Jones and Ka wasa ki pi lot Drey Di rk s duked it out in moto one as neither rider gave an in ch all n ight. Jones holesho t moto two and led for three la ps until Palmer suddenl y got on th e gas a nd jett ed aw ay aft er a daring pass in th e whoop-de-d ocs. Dirks fought p ast Jones a nd took Randy Shipley dominated the 250cc Amateur class at Firebird Motocross Park; he led both motos from start to finish . seco nd with Jon es roundi ng o u t the top three. The 250cc Amateur rac e was dominated by Randy Shipley' s Bell Road Kawasaki. He hol esh ot moto o ne and led to the flag with Adam Vesely getting a hard fought seco nd place o n hi s KX250. The moto two holeshot bel onged to Shipley a hea d o f Vesely a nd Jeff Conradson. Shipley str etched h is lead to 12 seconds by the fifth lap but went down in a slo w turn . The l25 cc Experts co m prised th e largest clas s o f th e day but it was Roskell ey wire-t o-wire. With Butler o u t o f th e I25cc pi cture, o n ly Suzuki Motorcycle and Marine-sponsored Joe Good wa s left to lead th e pack in a Ro skell ey cha se.
