On the n ext la p , Frank h i t th e bu m p a nd went over the bars, as d id Suzuki ri der J o H o p ki n s, who was ru n ni ng eighth, a la p la ter. Frank was th e onl y rider to re-enter the race after cra sh ing o ver that bump. Aft er things h ad settled down o n lap four, Surratt enj o yed a co m fo rt a ble lead o ver Wageman , Manning, Oswell , Kell y Andris (Hon) and Kevi n Allman (Ya m) . A co u p le of laps la ter, Manning passed Wageman a n d slowly started reelin g in Surratt, coming up to within a few bikelen g th s, bu t tim e ran ou t a nd S urratt wo n i t. Mann in g took seco nd , whil e Wagem an and Oswell finished thi rd a nd fo urth . Andris crashed ove r th e doubles two laps fro m the fi nis h a n d lo st two positions to Allma n a nd H onda rider J oe Wri gh t. 500cc Pro Mannin g g ra bbed th e hol eshot at th e sta rt o f th e fir st m ot a but was quickl y passed by Honda-mounted Arn et . Aft er tw o laps, th e top five wer e Arnet , Manning, Husqvarna 's Mick y Dym ond, Larson and Simons. Mann in g started to fad e q uickly as Simons set a fter and passed Larson an d Dym ond . A few turns la ter, L arson a lso p assed Dymond a n d se t a fter Simons. With Arnet o u t in front by a bo ut fou r seco nds , Si mons a nd Larso n tr aded places a co up le of tim es, th en La rson Iin al lv settled into second " and reeled in Ar ne t, As th ey h eaded into th e eig h th la p , Arnet fell a nd d ro p p ed back to a d istant th ir d . T he re main der o f th e race fea tured a duel fo r th e lead bet ween Larso n and Simons. It wasn ' t u ntil two la p s fro m the end th a t Si mons fo u nd eno ug h room to pass Larson a t the bo ttom of a dow n hi ll to tak e over th e lead and hold on to win . La rso n finis hed second ahead o f Arnet, Dym ond, AT K-m o unted Ra n d y Rod riguez and Yamaha rider Jim Ellis. Arnet led th e field around th e first turn at th e sta rt o f th e seco nd m oto , but wa s passed by Dymond in the wh oops duri ng the second lap. Once into th e lead , Dymo nd started pulling away . After Arnet foll owed Ellis, Larso n and Simons. A lap la ter , La rson blew by Ellis. th en reeled in an d passed Arnet. Simons chased Ellis for th ree la p s before ge tting arou nd th e Ya maha ri der , then Si mons found h im self ha ving to ca tch and pass Arn et in o rde r to tak e the overall. It took Si mons th ree mo re laps to reel in an d pa ss Arnet o n an uphill, bu t Arnet stu ffed his way back into th ird a turn lat er. As th e two headed into th e doubl e-jump secti on, Simons m oved to the o u tside and squeezed by for thi rd . Simons cruised i n third until th e fini sh and ca p tu red th e o verall. Dymond eas ily took th e mota win followed by Larson, Si mons, Arnet a nd Elli s. Bobby Moore (2) held on to second place most of the f irst 12 5cc moto bef o re getting passed by t he ov erall w inner Erik Kehoe (1 5) . Kaw asak i rider T allon Vohland and Yamaha-mounted Chris Young second and third . Brown led for th e n ext th ree laps befor e cras h ing and d ropping ba ck to th ird. After p assing Vohland, Young inherited a co m fort able lead and went o n to ta ke an easy win, while Brown passed Vohland on th e la st lap for second. Young led th e p ack ea rly in th e second mota, followed bv Chris Neal (Ya m), Vohla nd, Yamah~'s Mike Pasca rella and Steven Ko tajarvi (Kaw ). Bro wn was seventh. By th e th ird la p , Brown was in co ntrol of third j ust ahead of Vohl and and Pascarell a . Bro wn co ntin ue d o n h is warpa th an d passed Young a lap later for th e lead; but Bro wn crash ed again and d ropped to third, gi ving fir st and secon d to Young and Pascarell a .
